Jessica Irving from western Sydney one step closer to job at Aldi after ‘rejecting their rejection’

A determined teenager who landed herself a group interview at Aldi after refusing to take no for an answer when she was initially rejected is one step closer to landing a job.

Jessica Irving, from Mount Druitt in Sydney’s west, applied for a Retail Assistant role at her local store, but was told she was unsuccessful in landing an interview.

She decided to reply to the email saying ‘I reject your rejection’ and incredibly her tactic worked and she was invited to a group interview.

Following the group interview on Saturday, Ms Irving told Daily Mail Australia she felt confident that she was going to receive a one-on-one interview.

‘It went very well… I went into the interview with a mind-set to stand out,’ she said.

The 18-year-old then received an email on Tuesday morning, informing her that she had in-fact been successful.

‘We would like to progress you to the next stage of the recruitment process and invite you to attend a one-on-one interview with a member of Aldi Stores,’ the email read.

Ms Irving said she felt ‘amazing’ about progressing to the next stage of the interview process.

Her quest for employment first went viral last week when she took to Facebook on September 3 to post her unique approach to landing a job.

Ms Irving received a rejection letter from the supermarket giant which read: ‘Thank you for taking the time to submit your application for the position of Retail Assistant at Aldi.

‘After careful consideration we regret to advise that you have not proceeded to the next stage in this instance.’

After she received the email, Ms Irving replied explaining she wasn’t accepting their rejection.

‘Although my application was rejected, I have been applying for jobs over a year now with no success,’ the 18-year-old wrote.

‘My skills are on par with your store, with the ability to be exceptionally fast paced to scan items like every Aldi Team Member does.

‘I pride myself on my impressive sale skills and can describe myself to be very persuasive and show effectiveness.

‘So persuasive in fact, that I would like to confidentially reject your rejection. Thank you for letting me be a part of the team, I won’t let you down. See you on Monday.’

She then received an email saying she did not need to go into the store, as her application was unsuccessful.

But on the morning of September 3, she woke up to receive yet another notification from the supermarket saying she had been invited to a group interview.

She excitedly posted to Facebook saying she had found a ‘loophole for unemployment’.

‘Suddenly this morning I woke up and they had selected me for a group interview,’ Ms Irving told Daily Mail Australia.

‘I guess a different manager – they must have been impressed by my approach.’

Ms Irving was shocked to receive the response and said she ‘can’t believe it even worked’.

‘When applying for the job I thought I’d be a really strong candidate. I even waited almost a year to apply due to their 18-plus rule,’ she said.

‘It’s one of my local stores so being rejected was kind of a huge bummer and I didn’t want to apply for a store so far away so I thought I’d give it a go and it worked, surprisingly.’

Ms Irving is set to attend a group interview with Aldi on Saturday.

Daily Mail Australia contacted Aldi for comment, but they declined to comment as the company wanted to respect the recruitment process and give Ms Irving a fair go.
