Jett Kenny puts on a brave face as he goes surfing in Queensland afte breaking down on SAS Australia

He broke down in tears while discussing his sister Jaimi’s death on Tuesday’s episode of SAS Australia, which was filmed several months ago.

And Jett Kenny put on a brave face earlier that day as he attended a training session at a surf club in Alexandra Headland on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

The lifesaver-turned-model joked with his fellow surfers as he strolled down the beach in swim trunks with a board tucked under his arm.

Strong: Jett Kenny put on a brave face as he went surfing in Queensland on Tuesday morning, just hours before SAS Australia viewers watched him break down over his sister Jaimi’s death

The muscular reality star looked to be in his element as he rode the crashing waves with ease.

At times, however, Jett was seen looking more sombre, sometimes staring off into the distance with a mournful expression on his face.

While Jett did his best to maintain composure during surf training, he certainly couldn’t fight his emotions on Tuesday night’s episode of SAS Australia as he discussed his sister’s tragic death.

Jaimi had battled alcoholism and an eating disorder before she passed away at a Sunshine Coast hospital surrounded by her family – including Jett.

During the heartbreaking scene, Jett told his fellow recruits he ‘regretted not being there for Jaimi ‘more’ amid her struggles, after she tragically died at age 33 last September.

Addressing his fellow recruits as part of a challenge, Jett said: ‘The biggest thing in my life is never feeling good enough. I set my standards very high, but if I don’t get them then I put it all back on myself and I let that effect me heaps.

‘I guess a way I kind of became like that was with my sister. She battled with mental health for 15 years, but for me it was kind of just like, “why are you doing this to yourself?” I never fully understood it.’

He told the camera: ‘My sister did struggle with mental health. We did everything we could as a family and for Jaimi to try and bring her out of it. But unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

‘She got told she wasn’t going to make it until 30. She got to 33.’

Jett, who is the son of Olympian Lisa Curry and ironman Grant Kenny, began to tear up as he recalled a moment that he told his sister a ‘harsh reality’ when she asked him a question before her death.

‘I guess… there was one thing I said at her funeral. I’m not going to say it, as it was very personal. But I remember saying it to her the night that she asked me this question…’ he said.

Without revealing the question, he added: ‘I gave her the honest truth. I was hoping that was the harsh reality that she needed, hearing it from her younger brother. But she’s gone now. I kind of regret not being there for her more.’

Speaking to the camera, Jett added: ‘To me it was like – you have the will power to change your life, and turn things around. But that’s me. I can’t speak for someone who is going through mental health issues because I’ve never been there.

‘Everyone wants to do the best they can for the people that they love. But when you can’t it makes you question yourself. Like, was I good enough brother?

‘It takes a lot to get me to cry, but I cried at Jaimi’s funeral and the night she passed away. That’s my older sister. Of course I’m going to miss her.’

The Kenny-Curry family announced Jaimi’s death on social media on September 15 last year, one day after her passing.

‘Our beautiful daughter Jaimi has lost her battle with a long-term illness and passed away peacefully in hospital yesterday morning with her loving family by her side,’ Jaimi’s mother Lisa Curry wrote at the time.

‘Our beautiful daughter Jaimi has lost her battle with a long-term illness and passed away peacefully in hospital yesterday morning with her loving family by her side,’ Jaimi’s mother Lisa Curry wrote at the time.

‘We thank the incredible team at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital for their tireless commitment to making her better and giving us the extra time we were able to spend with her.

‘It goes without saying that this is a very difficult time for family and friends and we trust we will all be allowed to grieve in privacy.’
