If he hadn’t died in a plane crash in 1999, JFK Jr would have run for president, his mother’s former assistant says.
Kathy McKeon, 72, worked for Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis for 13 years, living with the former first lady in her Upper East Side apartment where she watched the Kennedy kids grow up.
In an Avenue Magazine story about Caroline Kennedy, McKeon is quoted as saying she thinks John John would have followed in his father’s footsteps to seek the White House.
‘If her brother wasn’t gone, he’d probably be running for president,’ McKeon said.
Tragically, JFK Jr was just 38 years old in 1999 when he crashed his private plane off Martha’s Vineyard flying to a family wedding. His wife Carolyn and sister-in-law were on board and both perished as well.
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’ former assistant Kathy McKeon believes Caroline Kennedy was motivated to enter public service because of her father and younger brother’s death. Former President Kennedy pictured with his wife and two kids above in 1963
McKeon believes JFK Jr’s death motivated Caroline to continue the family’s political dynasty herself.
‘When Caroline was growing up, she always said she wanted to be a wife and mother, and she is a very good mother. But the Kennedys are go-getters who never give up, and after John died, I think Caroline had that sense of duty in her to follow in her father’s footsteps, and I believe she’ll pull it off,’ McKeon said.
Recently, there have been whisperings that Caroline is looking to run for Congress, a position that could serve as a launch pad for future White House runs. She already has the clout of serving a successful term as Ambassador to Japan for President Obama under her belt.
