Jim Bob Duggar’s sister Deanna has taken to social media to expose her family’s ‘lies’ and ‘disguise’ – amid the release of an explosive documentary that documents his sensational downfall.
Deanna, 61, cut ties with her brother and patriarch, 57-year-old Jim Bob Duggar, after his 35-year-old son, Josh Duggar, was arrested and refers to them as ‘fake family.’
However, in recent weeks, Deanna has taken a bold and public stance against her fellow family members who she says are ‘not who they appear to be’ – ramping up her furious criticism of her relatives just as Amazon Prime released its documentary, Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets, which charts their fall from grace.
In May, Deanna posted very targeted quotes on her Instagram that had themes of ‘exposing the lies’ and ‘telling the truth.’

One of Deanna’s recent posts in May states the following: ‘Tell the Truth, or someone will share the truth for you!!! (sic)’
Another reads: ‘You may tell the greatest lies and wear a brilliant disguise, but you can’t escape the eyes of the one who sees right through you.’
A third post appears to provide some insight into Deanna consoling herself through these rocky times with her estranged family: ‘God puts people in your life so you can learn from them, and they can learn from you.
‘When the lessons are learned by both of you, God moves those people out of your life… So don’t get upset when God moves people in and out of your life. God knows what He is doing!’
Deanna isn’t the only one who has been vocal prior to the documentary coming out.
Her 36-year-old daughter, Amy, has also taken a stand for the side of ‘truth’ on her social media.
Amy is also estranged from the family who she openly calls ‘toxic’ online.
On TikTok, Amy’s bio reads, ‘The “crazy” cousin turned out to be… normal,’ alongside an emoji of a girl shrugging her shoulders.
In May, Deanna posted this cryptic quote, saying: ‘So very true’
She also seemingly consoles herself online, with a quote that emphasizes not getting ‘upset when God moves people in and out of your life’
In March, Deanna captioned this post with ‘AMEN’ and includes dozens of exclamation points
In February, Deanna says over the video of Jinger Duggar Vuolo’s book: ‘What a cool Valentine’s Day gift to receive today. Thanks Jinger, love you’
In January, Deanna posted a picture of one person embracing another on the road, but their hand becomes a snake. She adds: ‘So true!! Also fake family’
In another post from July 2022, Deanna posted a picture of a wolf in sheep’s clothing, unzipping his ‘innocent disguise’
Back in March last year, Deanna wrote: ‘Pull back the curtains, God. Unravel the lies. Expose the deceit. Reveal the hidden secrets of evil’
Last week, Amy posted the second part of the documentary’s trailer to her TikTok account and captioned it: ‘To the IBLP survivors: I just wanted you to know you are seen and you matter.
‘Sharing your truth has got to be so unbelievably stressful and hard to talk about. But I think standing up for what is right is even harder because there’s so much backlash that can come along with it.
‘The world will know what you have endured and will know very personal information about you and that alone is triggering. But I believe God can use this documentary for the greater good. Your story is so so beyond powerful and I’m thankful for the ones who are being loud enough to tell it.
‘I think you are all incredibly strong and bold, and your vulnerability is beautiful and you’re going to help open eyes and comfort millions of people. I admire all of you. Thank you for sharing your story with us.
‘I’ll be tuned in to watch and cry along with you this Friday.’
Earlier in May, Amy posted the first part with the caption: ‘The inside look at the dangerous teachings of IBLP premieres on @PrimeVideo June Second.’
She also put up a picture of her mom, Deanna, and her smiling together, writing: ‘We are here to remind you that toxic is TOXIC.
‘You are allowed to walk away from people who belittle you, lie to you and continue to hurt you. Even if those people tell you they love you.’
In January 2023, Deanna Duggar’s daughter, Amy Duggar, posts a TikTok video featuring hand writing, and reads: ‘People who follow the IBLP are taught that any formal education is a trap’
In January 2023, Amy Duggar’s video shows doctors in the hospital, and reads: ‘The IBLP encourages their followers not to go to medical school.’ Capone’s Oh No song plays over it
In January 2023, the audio narration over Amy Duggar’s video says: ”Ladies and gentleman, that’s what you call ‘in a cult”
Amy continues: ‘Ask yourself this question. Are their actions proving that they love you? Sometimes it’s so hard to take a stand, especially when they might just be family members. But if you don’t set boundaries, then nothing will change.’
Prior to the sibling rift between Deanna and Jim, the two had an ‘awesome’ and ‘great’ relationship, according to the 61-year-old.
However, the two started clashing when it came to Josh’s molestation case in 2021.
Deanna recalled the deceptive phase she went through with her brother at the time: ‘I was very shocked about everything that has happened. I was told some different things. It’s a really complicated situation when you’re told one thing, and something else happens.
‘I was watching our local news and we heard that homeland security stopped by Josh’s car lot. I called one of the family members, and I asked if it was true, and they said, “No, they just stopped by.” Homeland Security doesn’t just stop by.
‘I tried to make sense of it. What in the world is going on? I was told it was an ex-con [who downloaded the child pornography]. I kept trying to figure it out.’
Deanna did not attend Josh’s sentencing because the experience would have been ‘too hard’ for her to witness.
After Josh was arrested in 2021, the bond between the two siblings officially broke apart.
Amy has also vocally taken her mother’s side as she stated that she wanted Josh to receive the ‘harshest sentence’ possible and continued to say after his arrest: ‘It’s not justice for the children. There will never be justice for the children. Twenty years isn’t enough.’
In November 2022, Amy says: ‘The court says that his [Josh’s] appeal lacks merit. That doesn’t surprise me at all. He is narcissitic. He will not take responsibility for his own actions’
In September 2022, her post has audio over the quote: ‘You used to live in fear. But now, you’ve changed, and you’re not letting them control you, and I’m so proud of you’
In July last year, Amy used comedic relief in her videos that featured this Usher meme with overlaid text: ‘It’s okay to have huge boundaries if they can’t be trusted’
Back in January, Deanna posted a drawn picture of two men walking down the road, and one puts his arm around the other. But their arm turns into a snake that starts to choke the other man.
The picture also features a bold statement at the bottom: ‘The most dangerous animal on the planet is a fake friend.’
Deanna captioned this photo: ‘So true!!! Also fake family!!!!’
In the comments, Deanna continues with her advice: ‘What I recommend to deal with fake family, friends etc… Forgive them, and move on!!! Life is what you make it! Almighty God will deal with them!’
On her end Amy has posted IBLP info videos, quotes about her values, and openly talks about Josh’s case on her TikTok account.
In one of her posts, she uploaded a quote that read: ‘Some people are mad at you because you’re not suffering the way they expected you too.’
Over that, she adds her own narration saying: ‘You used to walk on eggshells, you used to live in fear, you used to be afraid to do anything… afraid of what they might do….
‘But now you’ve changed, and you’re not letting them control you, and I’m so proud of you.’
In regard to Deanna’s thoughts on reuniting with Jim in the future, she says: ‘I want everyone to get along. We’ll have to see on that one. I don’t know.’
