Jimmy Barnes shows off his incredible strength as he gives health update following open-heart surgery

Jimmy Barnes flaunted his growing strength on Thursday as he gave an incredible health update to all his followers following his open-heart surgery in 2023.

The Australian rock legend, 67, posed for an astounding photo by the pool as he lifted a pair of large weights in each hand.

Posting the snap to Instagram, the Scottish-born musician was all smiles as he held the dumbbells up by his head, wearing only a pair of black swim trunks.

‘Still Mr Puniverse but I feel fantastic,’ he joked in the caption as he flashed the tattoo he has over his heart – the name of his wife Jane.

It comes after Jimmy shared a hilarious health update on Sunday when he took to the pool for some laps to improve his physical fitness.

The former Cold Chisel frontman had an awkward gaffe when he posed for photos in the water and managed to slip his goggles on upside down.

Wearing naught but a pair of black trunks, the singer was all smiles as he threw his hands up in excitement for a couple snaps shared to Instagram.

However, the second image in his reel saw the performer slip on a black swim cap and goggles, the latter of which sat the wrong way on his face.

‘Sunday’s pool goal, 30 laps. Don’t get too excited, 25m pool. I didn’t know my goggles were upside down until Jane showed me this photo,’ the caption read.

Jimmy’s followers flocked to the comments to point out the rocker’s funny mix up, with one person saying: ‘Should have gone to Specsavers.’

Another wrote, ‘I saw that,’ next to a goggles emoji and a series of laughing-crying emojis.

‘Brilliant well done Jimmy and thanks for the giggle about the goggles I love that!’ someone else commented.

Yet another praised Jimmy’s wife Jane for ‘coming to the rescue’ before adding: ‘Looking great Barnsey.’

It comes after Jimmy opened up about his close brush with death and grave fears he wouldn’t wake up from heart surgery.

The performer has survived his fair share of health scares from his years of living life to the max, along with drug and alcohol addiction.

While previously it was others who were concerned about him, two months ago, he was just as worried as his family after he was struck down by a life-threatening infection that attacked his heart.

At one point, while lying in Sydney’s St Vincent’s Hospital, a gravely-ill Jimmy told his wife Jane: ‘I don’t think I’m gonna make it.’

‘I just had this horrible morbid feeling because I’ve never felt this sick before. I thought I was gone,’ he told 60Minutes.

Hours before checking into hospital, an unwell Jimmy took to the stage at a memorial concert for his late friend and promoter, Michael Gudinski.
