Jimmy Kimmel says White House sinkhole is ‘Melania’s escape tunnel’

Jimmy Kimmel has joked that the White House sinkhole is ‘one of Melania Trump’s escape holes’.

The gaping hole appeared on the North lawn of the President’s residence on Tuesday morning – almost a year to the day since a similar hole opened up at Mar-a-Lago.

According to DC locals, the hole was said to be ‘growing larger by the day’ and social media soon whipped itself into a frenzy over the news.

It wasn’t long before chat show host Kimmel cottoned on as he opened his show with jokes about the sinkhole’s mysterious appearence.

‘It is very interesting and weird, because exactly one year ago today, a sinkhole opened at Mar-a-Lago. And now there’s one outside the White House,’ Kimmel said.

‘I’m starting to think maybe God’s aim is slightly off.’

‘Are we sure this is a sinkhole and not one of Melania’s escape tunnels?’ he asked. ‘I don’t want to read into it, but she did ask for a headlamp for Mother’s Day.’

Geologists said the sinkhole was most likely just the result of bad weather.

Washington D.C., originally built in a murky swamp that had to be drained to make the area inhabitable, has received 6.14 inches of rain in May, more than what fell in the previous two months combined.

Trump previously made a feature of the phrase ‘drain the swamp’ as a reference to perceived corruption within Washington DC.

Kimmel also made light of one of the President’s recent tweets in which he called his wife ‘Melanie’ rather than Melania.

‘You know how Trump frequently makes mistakes in his tweets?’ Kimmel added.

‘Over the weekend he wrote ‘Melanie’ instead of Melania. Or the way he’ll use all caps or air quotes for no apparent reason. It turns out the president has staffers who help him compose those tweets.’

Kimmel added that the staffers were told to make deliberate grammatical errors in the tweets to make them sound more ‘authentic’.

‘And they do – to idiots,’ the host quipped.
