Frankie Dettori booked for Irish Derby contender Lone Eagle as legendary jockey seeks to capture third Classic victory of the summer

  • Italian rider seeking to follow up victories in the 1,000 Guineas and the Oaks
  • Among his 16 potential rivals at The Curragh will be Derby second Mojo Star
  • Aidan O’Brien had eight entries at Tuesday’s latest declaration stage

Connections of Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby contender Lone Eagle have moved swiftly to secure the services of Frankie Dettori for Saturday’s marquee event at The Curragh.

The Italian rider will be looking to capture a third Classic victory of the summer following victories aboard Mother Earth in the 1,000 Guineas before partnering Oaks heroine Snowfall to victory at Epsom.

Long Eagle was an intended runner in the Derby earlier this month before a dirty scope meant trainer Martyn Meade pulled the plug on his participation.

Among Lone Eagle’s 16 potential rivals will be Derby second Mojo Star, who was supplemented at a cost of €75,000 by trainer Richard Hannon and owner Amo Racing.

Mojo Star belied his 50-1 odds at Epsom when runner-up to Adayar and has finished second in each of his three racecourse appearances.

Aidan O’Brien is responsible for nearly half of the remaining horses at Tuesday’s latest declaration stage including ante-post favourite High Definition who missed Epsom following an encouraging comeback in the Dante Stakes at York when third to Hurricane Lane.

O’Brien said: ‘Everything has been good since he (High Definition) ran at York and the plan is for him to run at the moment. We’re happy with him at the moment.’
