ALISON BOSHOFF: Joe Sugg makes his film debut playing ‘charming’ rat Sardines in The Amazing Maurice

Watch out — or rather listen out — for dancer, actor and YouTuber Joe Sugg in animated film The Amazing Maurice.

Sugg plays all-singing, all-dancing, moonwalking rat Sardines, who is in a gang with Maurice, the ginger cat of the title.

Says Sugg of his character: ‘He’s a charming, old-fashioned, showbiz-inspired rat.’

The film — in cinemas and on Sky from December 16 — is based on the book by Terry Pratchett.

Sugg’s venture into the children’s movie world comes after his girlfriend Dianne Buswell revealed she’s keen to start a family.

The Strictly Come Dancing professional – who met Joe when she was partnered with him during the 2018 series – told Women’s Health last year that it was her ‘dream’ for the pair to have children.

The couple confirmed they were living together in August 2019 and bought a house together in February 2021.

She told the publication: ‘Joe is the most supportive person… I’d love to have a family one day, and I know Joe would love a family too. That would be our dream one day.’

When asked about marriage by Hello! magazine, she explained: I’m quite an unorganised person actually, Joe and I don’t really talk about that kind of thing.

‘We’re both so relaxed so we just play it by ear. We really enjoy each other’s company so much and whatever happens, happens.’

Dianne also admitted that she is really missing her family in Australia while living in the UK, deeming it the ‘toughest thing’ she has to deal with on a daily basis.

She previously dated Emmerdale actor Anthony Quinlan, 34, until the pair parted ways in October 2018, after ten months of romance.
