Forget oysters and champagne – going for a run could be a major aphrodisiac for couples wanting to improve their sex life.
An evening jog, or a bike ride, swim or brisk walk, can reignite a sexual spark, according to a health expert.
Exercise boosts blood flow and testosterone, which can increase arousal in both men and women.
The endorphins from a quick run around the block can put you in a passionate mood, while overriding the tiredness which leads couples to prioritise sleep or television over sex.
Professor Amanda Daley, of Loughborough University, whose advice was published online by the university’s Centre for Lifestyle Medicine and Behaviour, said: ‘The odds of having sex are higher in men and women who are moderately physically active at least once a week, rather than inactive.

‘Feeling fresh and energised can affect people’s motivation for sex, and being fitter and more toned could also improve their sexual confidence.’
Being active increases ‘happy’ hormones such as endorphins and serotonin, as well as the ‘cuddle hormone’ oxytocin, which can make people feel more physically close to loved ones and therefore boost arousal.
These hormones can counteract stress hormones like cortisol produced by a hard day of work or parenting – which would otherwise make it harder to get in the mood for sex.
