Johhnny Ruffo gives fans update on brain cancer battle

He shocked fans in August when he announced he required life-saving emergency surgery to remove a brain tumour. 

And after completing six weeks of radiotherapy treatment for his brain cancer diagnosis in October, Home And Away star Johnny Ruffo appears to be on a steady road to recovery.

The 29-year-old shared a picture of his healing scar on Instagram on Wednesday, comparing it to his raised stapled wound from the surgery.

Johnny emerged from theatre at Sydney’s Royal Prince Alfred Hospital on August 7 with 27 staples in his head and 95 per cent of the tumour removed. 

The hunk, who rose to fame on The X Factor Australia, told Daily Mail Australia that he went to hospital with what he thought was a severe migraine, before being rushed into emergency surgery.

It’s been 10 weeks since Johnny completed his radiotherapy treatment at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse in Bondi.  

Sharing an update on his cosmetic recovery, the Channel Seven personality shared a selfie showing off his shorn head after the seven cent centimeter long tumour was removed.

He wrote on the before-and-after comparison, ‘what a huge difference’, before jokingly adding: ‘just need my hair back.’ 

Fans were pleased by Johnny’s positive update, writing: ‘Healing up nicely legend!’, ‘So happy you are doing better’, ‘God bless you, you beautiful young man’ and ‘you’ve healed amazingly Johnny.’

Others wished the star a speedy recovery as he continue to: ‘Wish you much love and luck for a speedy full recovery’, ‘keep fighting buddy. You are doing well xxx’, ‘you look amazing. so proud of u.’

In an interview with New Idea magazine, Johnny said he would have died if it wasn’t for the life-changing operation to remove the tumour in his brain.

‘Without the operation, there was a 100 per cent certainty I would have died because of the pressure on my brain,’ he told the publication. 

He has also credited long-time dancer girlfriend Tahnee Sims for being the reason he is still alive.

Johnny told Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa the blonde beauty was in ‘absolute tears’ when she found out he had a brain tumour and would need to sign off on his life-saving emergency surgery to have it removed while he was in a coma.

‘It’s 8am in the morning and she gets a call from the emergency department, saying “you need get down here immediately because he’s got a brain tumour”, so she was in absolute tears at the time,’ Johnny said.

‘She had to drive down there and they said “look, we need to do an emergency operation.” Because by this stage, I had slipped into a coma,’ he added.

‘She had to sign a form to give permission.’

Johnny said that doctors told Tahnee there was a one in 20 chance he could die from the operation.

In late October, Johnny took to Instagram, praising radiotherapy staff in his recovery.

Uploading a snap that saw him standing alongside medical professionals, he wrote: ‘These guys are the real stars, my amazing radiotherapy team.’ 

Since then he has attended red carpet events and even returned behind the microphone for a recording session in Sydney. 

However, while the star has consistently remained positive during his heartbreaking ordeal, he has admitted he is prepared for the worse in his battle with brain cancer.

Speaking to Studio 10, Johnny revealed he already has a will ready.
