John Bercow has been mocked after a bizarre video of him shouting ‘order’ in Italian went viral, prompting his political opponents to delight in his apparent fall from grace.

The former Commons Speaker who stepped down from the role earlier this year after a decade in charge recently appeared on late night Italian talk show Che Tempo Che Fa.

Mr Bercow was asked to say his catchphrase in Italian – ‘ordine’ – and he proceeds to do so twice as he shouts at the top of his voice and turns a shade of red.

Mr Bercow had also obligingly shouted ‘order’ during Sky News’ general election coverage when he was asked to do so.

His willingness to appear on television and perform his catchphrase has prompted a vicious backlash online.

Responding to the Italian video, one social media user said: ‘John Bercow is now the most tragic character. Wandering around TV sets “doing his catchphrase”.’

Someone else echoed a similar sentiment as they said: ‘John Bercow embarrassing himself on foreign TV. Political victory has never been so sweet.’

Mr Bercow has begun to craft a broadcast career after quitting as a parliamentarian.

He was the marquee guest on Sky News’ election coverage and it is thought he was paid as much as £60,000 to appear.

A source at the channel said: ‘His huge payment is the talk of Sky News. Nobody could believe it. That said, he was on through the night and, of course, has tremendous insight.’

Mr Bercow signed with a celebrity after-dinner speaking agency following his decision to leave the House of Commons.

He is in JLA’s ‘AA’ category of clients who command fees of £25,000 per appearance.
