John Grisham headliner at Harrogate crime-writing festival

John Grisham has been unveiled as one of the headline stars of the world’s biggest celebration of crime-writing.

The lawyer turned author has joined the line-up for the 2018 Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate, Yorkshire, in July.

The festival, in its 16th year, features more than 90 bestselling crime authors and is held at The Old Swan Hotel, once a retreat of Agatha Christie.

The Mail on Sunday is the official media partner for the festival’s Crime Novel of the Year Awards.

Grisham, 63, will be interviewed by the festival’s programming chairman, Lee Child, author of the bestselling Jack Reacher series.

Dubbed ‘America’s favourite storyteller’, Grisham is synonymous with the modern legal thriller. His latest novel, The Rooster Bar, a number one New York Times bestseller, will be published in paperback in July to coincide with his visit.

Grisham said: ‘I’ve never been to Harrogate or even to Yorkshire and I’m really looking forward to the festival.’

He will join fellow American author Don Winslow already announced as a special guest.

Coventry-born Child, 63, who lives in New York, said: ‘It’s fun to bring some different names to Harrogate for the first time.’
