John Hemmes letters between him and secret son

An impassioned plea written by the estranged son of John Hemmes to his biological father has been revealed in full after he was awarded $1.75 million of his estate on Friday.

Correspondence tendered to the New South Wales Supreme Court shows the hospitality tycoon shot down his reaching out son Edward Cameron, 27, in an email sent by proxy.

Mr Cameron eventually worked up the courage to contact the late Sydney business identity as a 20-year-old, before suing for a $4.1million portion of his estate this week, Daily Telegraph reported.

‘It has taken me a long time to write this letter, not only because not knowing what to write and how to address you, but also being scared of denile (sic),’ he wrote.

‘I have always wanted to meet you, speak to you and know you since I could remember, but not until now have I been strong enough to do something about it..’

Mr Cameron continued by introducing himself to his father as the graduate of a dual diploma in marketing and advertising, living abroad with his German girlfriend.

He concluded the letter by leaving his email address and saying how he would ‘love’ to get to know ‘Dad, John, Father, Mr Hemmes’.

But all Mr Cameron received in reply was an email written by his father’s general manager of administration Kerrie Boylett, telling him to ‘not under any circumstances’ try and find him at his private address.

Ms Boylett – who Daily Telegraph reported was left $2million in Mr Hemmes’ will – wrote: ‘Until a DNA test is completed with regard to yourself and Mr Hemmes, Mr Hemmes does not want to have any contact with you.

‘As previously mentioned, Mr Hemmes does not believe that you and himself have the same DNA.’

The letter continued to explain that Mr Hemmes was only willing to meet with Mr Cameron if another DNA test proved their relation.

Ms Boylett added: ‘This meeting is to be set up through myself. Once again, Mr Hemmes has asked that if DNA is to show that you both have the same DNA, that you do not contact him direct, but rather myself to set up a time to meet.

‘Once again, please contact me direct for any questions or queries otherwise any correspondence sent to Mr Hemmes will be returned unopened.’

EDWARD CAMERON’S REACH-OUT LETTER TO HIS FATHER IN FULL

Dear Dad, John, Father, Mr Hemmes …

It has taken me a long time to write this letter, not only because not knowing what to write and how to address you, but also being scared of denile (sic). I have always wanted to meet you, speak to you and know you since I could remember, but not until now have I been strong enough to do something about it..

I wanted to keep this letter relatively short, so I will now tell you a little about myself. I am currently 20 years of age, graduated school and completed a Dual Diploma of Marketing and Advertisement. I am now living in Germany with my girlfriend who is German  I love it here it is very beautiful. I have been in Germany for three months and plan on staying a long time..

The reason for this letter is to have the chance to get to know you and for you to get to know me, it would mean alot [sic] for me to understand that missing person in my life..

So if you would like to get in contact with me my personal email address is: …

I would love to hear from you soon.

Lots of love Edward.

Mr Cameron was awarded $1.75 million on Friday after claiming he was born to Mr Hemmes and Fiona Cameron – a woman with whom he allegedly had an affair with between 1983 and 1989.

Justice Geoffrey Lindsay made his decision after court heard details of how Mr Cameron never met his father before he died from cancer in March 2015, Sydney Morning Herald reported.

His mother’s relationship with Mr Hemmes ended once she became pregnant, and he only began paying child support to her in the mid 1990s after several court cases.

DNA tests at the time found that Mr Cameron was 99.6 per cent likely to be Mr Hemmes’ son.

But Mr Cameron said his father never acknowledged him or spoke to him and even took out an apprehended violence order when he tried to find him, NSW Supreme Court heard on Thursday.

KERRIE BOYLETT’S RESPONSE ON BEHALF OF JOHN HEMMES

Hi Edward

John Hemmes has passed your letter to me.

Please do not under any circumstances contact Mr Hemmes at his private address.

Until a DNA test is completed with regard to yourself and Mr Hemmes, Mr Hemmes does not want to have any contact with you.

As previously mentioned, Mr Hemmes does not believe that you and himself have the same DNA.

Mr Hemmes, has agreed, that if a DNA test has been completed, and Mr Hemmes has been found to have the same DNA as you, he will meet with you to discuss. This meeting is to be set up through myself. Once again, Mr Hemmes has asked that if DNA is to show that you both have the same DNA, that you do not contact him direct, but rather myself to set up a time to meet. …

Once again, please contact me direct for any questions or queries otherwise any correspondence sent to Mr Hemmes will be returned unopened.

Regards,

Kerrie
