Former Chelsea captain John Terry has announced that he has returned to work with the club’s academy.

The Blues icon departed his boyhood club just months ago to take up a role as Leicester City’s assistant coach but following the departure of Dean Smith after their relegation, he is back at Chelsea.

Taking to Twitter, he revealed: ‘I’m delighted to be back Home working in the Academy.’

Blues fans around the globe have expressed their delight at the news, with one Twitter user wrote: ‘ That’s nice to hear that our old Captain . I wish you all the best in your new role’.

Another praised Chelsea for the move as they said: ‘Chelsea made a wise decision in bringing Terry back.

‘His dedication and passion for the club will surely have a positive impact on the Academy.’

With Frank Lampard departing at the end of last season, Chelsea have lost a legend amongst their staff.

However, Terry’s return means that they have gained one back, as a Chelsea fan wrote:  ‘John Terry is Chelsea’.

However, not everyone took the news well as rival fans got involved in the reaction.

Twitter user Gray joked that the former captain has been brought in as a back-up plan for new boss Mauricio Pochettino.

‘John Terry to replace Poch before matchday 25, to help take Chelsea out of 17th position on the table,’ they wrote. ‘That’s the script!!’
