This is the chilling moment a lying husband who murdered his estranged wife told police he had no idea what happened to her.

John Edwards, from Grafton in New South Wales, was on Friday found guilty of murdering his wife Sharon even though her body has never been found.

Footage from a police interview after she disappeared on March 14, 2015 shows officers asking Edwards what may have happened to her.

When Sharon was reported missing, a devastated Edwards (in pink) fronted the media and appealed for Sharon to come home, saying he didn’t know where she was

‘What do you believe has happened,’ an officer asked.

‘I got no idea…that’s why I’m so frustrated,’ Edwards responded.

‘I’ve got no idea.

‘But, God I hope you find her – my boys are really worried too.’

At one point in the interview Edwards said that his wife had multiple affairs.

‘She’s had a couple of affairs…you know, I’m sort of pretty forgiving.’

When Sharon was reported missing, a devastated Edwards fronted the media and appealed for Sharon to come home, saying he didn’t know where she was.

‘Someone out there must know some little something,’ he cried while surrounded by his sons.

‘I’ve just been sick you know racking my brains out.’

The night Mrs Edwards vanished she was drinking in a pub with her old football coach Billy Mills, with whom she had found love after her marriage broke down.

She went home and was killed by Edwards who, police believe, dumped her body in nearby bushland where her phone was found.

He admitted being at Mrs Edwards’ house the night she died but claimed he only watched a movie and left at midnight without seeing her.

However, his phone gave off a signal in the same bushland where her phone was found at 4.22am.

Mr Mills was the last person to see Mrs Edwards alive other than her killer.

He told 9News: ‘She was good woman, I remember taking her hand and giving her a kiss and I said “see you later”.

‘I always had in my head that I let a human life go.’

Mrs Edwards’ son Josh said he was ‘relieved’ by the verdict.

‘It’s a sad day for everyone. There are no winners in this. We’ve lost our mum and now we’ve lost our dad,’ he said.

Even though no body was found Edwards was arrested in 2017 and pleaded not guilty to murder.

During the trial, the couple’s son, Josh Edwards, told the court that his father beat his wife on the day she disappeared.

According to court documents seen by 9News, John Edwards told his son that his wife hit her head after he threw her onto the floor.

‘I’m sorry, I should have just walked away. She’d be alive if I went home,’ the father said.

Edwards will be sentenced at a later date.
