Johnny Nelson urges Kell Brook to come in OVERWEIGHT for his grudge fight with Amir Khan – even though it would cost him hundreds of thousands of pounds in a fine – with the rivals FINALLY set to meet in the ring
- Fierce rivals Kell Brook and Amir Khan will finally meet in the ring this Saturday
- Brook’s been encouraged to come in overweight if he struggles to make 149lbs
- A six-figure fine’s been put in place for either fighter who comes in over the limit
- But former champ Johnny Nelson insists Brook should pay the fine if struggling
- Brook recently revealed that he made the weight ‘weeks ago’ and is raring to go
Former cruiserweight champion Johnny Nelson has encouraged Kell Brook to come in overweight for his grudge fight with Amir Khan and pay the six-figure fine if he is struggling to make the 149lb catchweight.
Brook has publically stated in the past that he has struggled to make the welterweight limit of 147lbs and could face similiar issues for Saturday’s fight with Khan.
A six-figure fine has been put in place for the bout for either fighter than comes in over the catchweight limit.

But Nelson believes the fight will go ahead regardless and that a weight penalty could ‘double bluff’ Khan as they both enter the final days of their preparation ahead of their highly-anticipated grudge match.
‘That is what they have got to go for,’ Nelson said to Sky Sports. ‘I believe that is what they are going to go for.
‘But speaking about this weight issue, if it is tight pay the fine. They have to pay the fine because it is one or the other, I know what I think he is weighing and if it will make the difference pay the fine.
Khan (pictured) and Brook will be fined £100,000 for every pound they come in overweight
‘If you come in a couple of pounds over the fight is going to go on because he would have double bluffed him: if you are going to squeeze me down for this I will come in over the weight and pay the fine.
‘But my argument is why would you not want to box the best version of each other? But you know what, Kell has wanted it this bad, would it be more bragging rights for Kell beating Khan at 147 (lbs)?’
While Brook may have revealed concerns over making the weight before, the Sheffield-native insists he has no issues this time round and even made the weight weeks in advance.
The pair will have to pay £100,000 for every pound they are overweight but Brook insists there will be no concerns when it comes to the weigh-in.
But Brook insists he made the 149lb catchweight ‘three or four weeks ago’ and is raring to go
Brook said: ‘I am there with the weight, I could have made the weight three or four week ago. I am very comfortable with where I am at, the 19th (February) is right there now.
‘I am genuinely happy, I am not putting a poker face on, I am just enjoying it all now as I have put the hard work in being away from my family over Christmas.
‘It will be all worth it on Saturday night when I have my hand raised high.’
