Jorginho ‘is determined to stay and fight for his place at Arsenal’ despite Lazio showing interest in the Italy international just five months after his move from Chelsea

Jorginho is reportedly determined to stay and fight for his place at Arsenal despite interest from Lazio.

The midfielder only joined Arsenal in January when he arrived in a surprise switch from Chelsea but he has been linked with a return to Italy, with Napoli and AC Milan also said to be monitoring him.

However, according to the Evening Standard, the 31-year-old has no intention of leaving the Gunners.

Arsenal are set for an overhaul in midfield this summer as they look to bring in Declan Rice from West Ham while Thomas Partey could head to Saudi Arabia and Granit Xhaka is expected to join Bayer Leverkusen.

Mikel Arteta’s side are also pursuing a move for Southampton youngster Romeo Lavia, but Jorginho believes he still has a part to play for Arsenal.

Jorginho has made 16 appearances for Arsenal so far and edged ahead of Partey in the pecking order towards the end of last season.

If Arsenal were to sign Rice then Jorginho would be unlikely to be a first-choice starter next season but he could still receive plenty of minutes, especially with the club involved in the Champions League.

The Italy international has two years left on his current contract at Arsenal.

Prior to heading to English football with Chelsea in 2018, Jorginho played in Italy for Hellas Verona and Napoli.

Arsenal have had two bids rejected for West Ham captain Rice but are set to return with a third offer for the England international, who is valued at £100million.
