Josh Ritchie asks Love Island co-star Sophie Piper to be his girlfriend after coupling up in the South African villa… but she says no!

Josh Ritchie revealed on his Instagram Story that he asked Sophie Piper to be his girlfriend but she turned him down, saying: ‘I don’t think we’re at that stage yet.’

In the video he shared, Josh, 29, showed a hotel bed surrounded with rose petals and that had rose petals on the bed itself spelling out ‘will you be my gf?’

Josh turned the camera to Sophie and said: ‘Look what we have here, then. Thankfully, she said “no”.’

Sophie, 25, explained: ‘Erm, I just don’t think we’re at that stage yet. I think there’s a lot of stuff still that we’re working out.’

Josh burst into laughter while Sophie was speaking, letting his followers know that Sophie wasn’t being serious.

Rochelle Humes’ sister confirmed this by taking to her own Story to share a photo of the bed and write: ‘His (sic) the cutest haha’.

Josh took Sophie to the luxurious Down Hall Hotel & Spa in Bishop’s Stortford to pop the question.

It comes just over a month after the couple finished Love Island All Stars in third place after being coupled up since the day after Sophie entered the Villa.

Before Sophie, Josh was coupled up with former flame Georgia Harrison, but the two decided to remain friends.

Sophie and Josh’s journey is a stark contrast to co-stars Georgia Steel and Toby Aromolaran who called it quits two weeks after celebrating Toby’s 25th birthday.

Earlier in the day, the new couple joined Coronation Street stars and Kirstie Allsopp at Alton Towers.

The celebs were there to try out the theme park’s revamped ride Nemesis Reborn which is now open to the public.

The rollercoaster, which has a sister ride in Thorpe Park named Nemesis Inferno, first opened in 1994 before closing in 2022 for a multimillion-pound makeover.
