Jude Bellingham to Man United: Rio Ferdinand urges former Red Devils to get deal done

‘He’s the one you don’t want to miss’: Rio Ferdinand urges Man United to go back in for Jude Bellingham no matter the cost – after initially missing out to Borussia Dortmund for the now £100m-rated starlet

  • Man United missed out to Borussia Dortmund on Jude Bellingham last year
  • The Germans swooped in to secure a £25m deal with Birmingham for the starlet
  • Since, Bellingham has emerged as one of the most promising midfielders around
  • Rio Ferdinand feels United cannot miss out on him again, regardless of the cost

Rio Ferdinand has sent a clear warning message to his former club Manchester United regarding the one player who they simply ‘do not want to miss’ on the transfer market.

Ferdinand, who is ever outspoken on the affairs of his former club, strongly believes that United must pull out all the stops to sign Jude Bellingham and make sure they do not once again fail to obtain the midfielder’s signature.

Last summer United were edged out by German giants Borussia Dortmund after making an offer to Birmingham City for Bellingham, with the youngster opting for a move to the Bundesliga.

Since, Bellingham rapidly broke into the first team at the Westfalenstadion and now stands as one of the most exciting and coveted young footballers on the planet.

Speaking this week on his FIVE podcast, Ferdinand waxed lyrical about Bellingham and insisted the 18-year-old can do it all.

When discussing exactly what positions across the midfield line Bellingham could potentially operate in for his former club United, an awe-struck Ferdinand said: ‘Any. He’s that good.

‘Serious. In the England youth teams there are times when he’s played as the holding midfielder. Times he’s played as the 8 and been box-to-box.

‘And also times when he’s been told he can join the attacks more. He has the capabilities and capacity to play all of the roles, he’s that good.

‘I think for him, I see him as being someone who can do it all. There aren’t many midfielders in the game now that can attack and defend – affect the game at both ends.

‘When you are one of the super clubs, there are talents out there that make you think if we have the capacity and financial muscle, then he’s one you don’t want to miss.’

Ferdinand is the latest in a long list of former pros to have recently heaped praise on Bellingham, with none other than Roy Keane recently chipping in with his own warm words.

The notoriously abrupt, tough talking pundit couldn’t speak highly enough of Bellingham following his recent starring appearance in England’s 10-0 demolition of minnows San Marino.

‘He has got a great chance, the kid,’ Keane said on ITV Sport. ‘We love everything about him.

‘What he is doing on the pitch, the way he speaks off it. He is playing week in, week out for a top club. Oh the potential for this kid… it is scary.’
