Latest project: Dame Judi Dench, 82, posed with co-star Ali Fazal, 30, at a special screening of new movie Victoria And Abdul at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles on Tuesday night
New role: The movie is based on a true story and shows the unlikely friendship between Queen Victoria and Abdul Karim, her Indian employee
The Oscar-winner was a picture of comfort wearing a loose fitting knee length jacket and matching trousers.
She complemented her look with a pastel green evening scarf which she draped asymmetrically across one shoulder.
Undoubtedly, the actress was all too happy not to be wearing the Victorian costumes of her latest film in which she had to wear the regal attire of one of the most famously uncomfortable periods in British fashion history.

Dench crew: Dame Judi was joined by fellow cast and crew on the red carpet in LA, including the film’s director Eddie Izzard and writer Stephen Frears
The screening was held at the LA Museum of Tolerance which, according to its website, is a venue ‘dedicated to challenging visitors’ and confronting ‘all forms of prejudice and discrimination in our world today.’
Dame Judi’s latest film shows the unlikely friendship between Queen Victoria and Abdul Karim, her Indian employee as in the 1800s racism was fairly endemic.
Abdul was sent to the aging Empress as ‘a gift’ from India and he came over for a couple of months but stayed for around a decade.
The film shows how Dame Judi’s character enjoyed a beautiful friendship with the young Indian man despite their 36 year age gap.
But she faced the wrath of her courtiers and advisers who felt that she should be declared insane after she gave Abdul increasing responsibilities.
It is due to be released on September 22 in the US and was released on September 15 in the UK.
