Julianne Hough has found peace around her past.
The 36-year-old dancer shared what it was like seeing ex-husband Brooks Laich, 41, with his girlfriend, Katrin Davíðsdóttir, at a wedding.
In a teaser for the The Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast shared by People, Hough opened up to Lima about the experience, calling it ‘beautiful’ in a three-part interview.
She stressed, ‘It was so beautiful. It was so beautiful,’ adding, ‘I’m in this place where I now feel like I’m just beginning with so much wisdom, with so much insight, with so much compassion and so much empathy and understanding of like, what’s possible.’
Reflecting on her divorce, which was finalized in 2022, she, described going from ‘having the extreme of like, “Will this ever end?” to “Oh my gosh, like, I get to literally, design and create the life of my dreams.”‘

Julianne and Brooks wed in 2017 and separated in 2020; pictured in August 2019
She continued, ‘And know that every decision I’m going to make is going to be from here and that, like, you know, it still doesn’t mean it’s going to be this perfect life.’
Hough isn’t striving for ‘a perfect life,’ but rather a ‘full, beautiful, connected life.’
The media fixture said, ‘You feel joy because you feel sorrow, you feel all these things because you have the spectrum to feel it.
‘You have the space to feel it, and that, I think, is what we’re here to experience, is the fullness of life.’
Julianne and Brooks were first romantically linked in 2013 and they got married in Idaho in summer 2017.
Three years later the couple announced their separation and the divorce was finalized in 2022.
Laich cemented his new relationship with CrossFit athlete Davíðsdóttir with an Instagram post in August 2021.
For Hough, she now has ‘certain non-negotiables’ and is practicing ‘living and vibrating in the place of my most authentic self for that to be what attracts whoever it is, versus I’m gonna put what I think I want and need out there and then literally force-create it.’
Brooks has been dating girlfriend Katrin since 2021
Julianne explained that she was ‘able to start that healing’ because Brooks ‘provided such a beautiful foundation for me to be a little girl’
It comes weeks after the media figure opened up about her sexuality to Lima — five years after she revealed she’s ‘not straight.’
While appearing on the first installment of the podcast, she emphasized that she is attracted to ‘people.’
She also reflected on the empowerment she felt after coming out publicly in 2019.
‘Coming out is one of the most vulnerable and empowering things that you can do. I think for me, it was very much like, it’s not about being straight or gay or bi or queer,’ she explained.
She added: ‘It’s more about, I think I’m just learning what love is and I love people and I don’t know what I’m attracted to, but “I choose you.”‘
