She won an Academy Award in 2014 for her performance as a woman living with Alzheimer’s in Still Alice.
And for Julianne Moore the road to success hasn’t been always been smooth sailing, as she revealed to The Sydney Morning Herald.
Reflecting on her earlier days in the film industry, the 56-year-old admitted that a former agent had once told her she wasn’t ‘pretty’ enough for casting directors.
‘I remember thinking, I’m not sure I have much control over that’: Actress Julianne Moore reflected on her earlier days in the movie industry one of her former agents told her to try to look pretty for auditions
‘Apparently the feedback kept coming in: ‘Could she be more prettier?’ And I remember thinking, ‘Oh dear, I’m not sure I have much control over that,” she said.
Despite this, Julianne has gone on to become one of the most sought-after actresses in the world particularly in her more recent roles such as Crazy, Stupid, Love and The Hunger Games series.
‘I’ve been very fortunate, but also I do hate to keep beating that ‘there’s nothing for women out there’ drum, because I feel like the more you say it the more you make it true,’ she said.

Her counterpoint, hinting at the ageism debate in Hollywood, comes after actresses including Glenn Close, Kim Cattrall, and Rose Byrne, have called out the industry for for overlooking established actors.
That said, Julianne turned her attention to the pressures placed on young women today to look good, particularly with the constant presence of social media.
‘Our pool was much smaller because you were just doing those comparisons in your own school or community, but now girls are looking at all these models… it’s a lot of pressure.’
Fortunate: Hinting at the ageism debate, she said ‘I do hate to keep beating that ‘there’s nothing for women out there’ drum, because I feel like the more you say it the more you make it true’ (with husband Bart Freundlich and children Liv Freundlich and Caleb Freundlich)
