Just a one hit wonder? Shock video of Nikki Webster singing off-key during an episode of Playschool emerges: ‘Sounds absolutely terrible’

Nikki Webster made a surprise appearance on iconic ABC Kids series Play School this week – and viewers were not happy with her performance.

The pop star, 37, who shot to fame after performing her hit We’ll Be One at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, was on the show to discuss the Games in Paris.

In a strange move, Webster did not sing her own song – instead launching into a cover of fellow Aussie Vanessa Amorosi’s Olympics anthem Absolutely Everybody.

‘Everybody has a sport and everybody needs to have fun. And while we’re at it, sing – and I mean Absolutely Everybody!’ Nikki began.

The Sydney-born star then broke out in a unique rendition of Amorosi’s hit song supported by a girl’s choir, but she struggled to hit the high notes.

Viewers quickly took to social media to slam her performance and question why the series recruited her to begin with.

‘Why did they just get Vanessa Amorosi to sing it?’ one upset fan asked.

‘Absolutely terrible,’ a second person added and a third chipped in: ‘Losing her breath! Vanessa is better.’

Nikki stole the hearts of Australians and the world at just 13 years old when she performed at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

She then launched her career as a pop star, whose biggest hit was the 2001 song Strawberry Kisses.

The song went on to become the unofficial anthem of the Matildas’ 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup team – resulting in renewed popularity for Webster.

In 2005, a racy Nikki appeared on the cover of defunct lads mag FHM, the same year after she was asked to do the shoot in celebration of turning 18.
