Justin Trudeau is pictured on set of Canada’s Drag Race

Justin Trudeau has been slammed for going on the Drag Race television franchise when Canadian’s argue he should be focusing on staving off the cost of living crisis.

Trudeau’s appearance on the new season of Canada’s Drag Race was announced Tuesday, with the show posting a picture of the PM beaming next to a drag queen, saying: ‘We’re making herstory.’

A trailer for the season, entitled Canada vs The World, shows the prime minister meeting contestants, who compete to become the ‘next drag superstar.’ It is scheduled to premiere on November 18.

But soon after, backlash mounted on social media amid controversies over drag shows that involve young children after footage has emerged showing performers posing sexually in front of young children.

Amy Eileen Hamm, the cofounder of the Canadian Women’s Sex-Based Rights coalition, asked whether Trudeau will ‘combine womanface AND blackface,’ as Paul Oakley, the former spokesman for the UK Independence Party, tweeted: ‘A keen advocate of blackface, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will now also endorse womanface as he is to appear as a guest on Drag Race.’

Another Twitter user also wrote that Trudeau is ‘an embarrassment.’

‘But these embarrassments are deliberate,’ the Canadian woman wrote. ‘They are divisive— he knows we Conservatives will balk — and he can respond ‘This is not who Canada is.”

Meanwhile, another woman asked: ‘Isn’t there some major crises in the country? Most of which he helped create like the good little puppet he is.

‘And instead  of even pretending to try and fix things, he’s up here dancing around with drag queens. What a disgraceful clown.’

Trudeau has long been known to champion LGBTQ issues in Canada, regularly appearing at pride parades and apologizing for injustices committed against the gay community.

But his appearance on the new season of Canada’s Drag Race comes as prices in the country surged 6.9 percent, with the Bank of Canada hiking interest rates by 350 points in just seven months, according to Reuters.

There are now growing fears that the country may soon fall into a recession.

And in September, the new president of the Canadian Medical Association announced the country’s entire health-care system may crumble if it does not receive an infusion of cash, CBC reports.

Dr. Alika Lafontaine, an anesthesiologist, told CBC how Canada’s health care is in ‘dire’ straits, with quality care severely limited in some parts of the country.

‘We’ve been saying for a while that we’re concerned about collapse. And in some places, collapse has already happened,’ Lafontaine said. ‘All of these things are not normal things for Canadians to experience so we are at a critical point right now.

‘If you can’t access services, that literally does mean collapse,’ he added.

Federal Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos has suggested more money will soon be injected into the health care system.

Meanwhile, backlash has mounted in recent years against drag shows after various clips emerged showing drag queens performing in front of young children.

Just last month, a video posted to Twitter of a so-called ‘family friendly’ drag queen show captured a performer spreading their legs in front of an audience that includes young children.

The event appears to have been sponsored by IPIC Movie Theaters which operates a number of locations across the northeastern US, Florida and California.

In the short clip, a scantily clad drag queen performs a forward role along a catwalk before then suggestively spreading their legs wide in a skimpy leotard.

The performer then thrusts their breast forward, all-the-while a young boy is merely feet away and appears to hand a tip over to another cast member.

And in Oregon, fierce clashes broke out at a ‘drag queen story event’ that was slated to include a performance by an 11-year-old whose former ‘drag mom’ is a suspected pedophile.

Protesters against the event faced off with supporters outside the venue, Old Nick’s Pub, which is named after Satan, and which also holds adult fetish nights.

Some demonstrators on both sides of the roughly 200-strong standoff were armed, police said, including with semi-automatic rifles.

But despite the chaotic scenes outside the pub in Eugene, the event still went ahead – although the child performer, whose stage name is Vanellope MacPherson DuPont, reportedly did not take to the stage as planned.

It has since emerged that a woman who claims to be one of Vanellope’s ‘drag moms’, Kelsey Meta Boren, was charged earlier this year with three child sex offences.

She is accused of sharing child porn images and told detectives that she has an ‘uncontrollable itch’ to communicate with pedophiles.

In Kansas, Republicans also tore into Democrat Gov. Laura Kelly and her administration over revelations that taxpayer dollars helped fund an all-ages drag event over the weekend.

Images obtained by DailyMail.com show scantily-clad drag performers dancing at the Wichita event in front of both adults and young children.

Called the ‘DADA Ball,’ it was advertised as ‘a free, all-ages evening of music, fashion, drag & dancing!’

Among the backers of the event host is the Kansas Creative Arts & Industries Commission, which is a part of the state Department of Commerce. The department is led by Kelly’s lieutenant governor, David Toland.

The department, however, denied funding the drag show.

But upon learning of the all-aged drag event, the Kansas Republican Party called it ‘shocking’ and used it as proof of Kelly’s ‘liberal’ leanings.

‘Laura Kelly’s state-funded ‘all-ages’ drag show proves that despite what her glossy campaign ads portray, she really is that liberal,’ the state GOP Executive Director Shannon Pahls told DailyMail.com.

‘It is shocking to those of us in Kansas to discover that our taxpayer dollars funded the exposure of explicit sexual themes to children. Laura Kelly and her entire administration need to go.’
