Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon has put the disappointment of losing the Champions League final to Barcelona to one side, and says he wants to continue playing for another three years.

The Italian goalkeeper was in excellent form but could not prevent the Old Lady from going down 3-1 in Berlin, but he believes he has learnt how to deal with contrasting emotions.

But despite his second Champions League final defeat, he insists he does not want to give up his dream of winning the tournament.

‘I want three more years at this level to reach a few more dreams,’ he said.

‘There was a moment, a 10-minute spell, when we thought we had the match in our hands and that’s exactly when we lost it.

‘It would have been an extraordinary result. We didn’t manage to win, but not because we didn’t try. We gave everything we had.

‘Barcelona are the best team in the world in my opinion, but we have proved that we could compete.’

Three more years would take Buffon to the age of 40, but his performance in the final showed he still has plenty to offer, despite his age.

He was powerless to stop Ivan Rakitic, Luis Suarez and Neymar from finding the back of the net, but he says he has learnt to deal with success and disappointment in equal measure.

‘I am a guy who always knows how to handle moments of great joy and disappointment with balance,’ Buffon told Sky Sport Italia.

‘This is one of the disappointments sport gives you, but before that we shared many great moments of joy with our fans.

‘It was a shame not to have the final to really finish off this journey, but at one point I really did believe.’
