Korean girl group Blackpink rumoured to have their own Netflix documentary in the works… sending K-pop fans into a frenzy on social media

Rumours have emerged that K-pop superstars Blackpink will have a Netflix documentary this year.

The girl group’s fans spotted a potential leak about the project listed on the streaming service, but no release date has been set. 

Blackpink has four members: New Zealand-raised rapper Jennie Kim, Korean singer Jisoo Kim, Thai rapper Lisa Manoban, and Australian singer Chaeyoung ‘Rosé’ Park.

Fans discovered when typing in ‘Blackpink’ into the Netflix search bar that ‘Untitled Blackpink Feature Documentary’ comes up as a related title.

A Twitter user reached out to Netflix, asking when the documentary would be released. 

Netflix responded: ‘Hey, thanks for reaching out! We currently don’t have any info on when that’ll be released. Make sure to follow our social handle for updates though!’

Fans also noticed camera crews following the four idols during their promotional events last year, as they worked with major brands like Adidas. 

Fans hope the documentary will focus on the girl group’s hardships and personal journey to success, including unreleased footage from before their debut and during training, as well as their audition videos.  

The record company YG Entertainment previously produced a reality show called Blackpink House, which focused on the four girls’ everyday lives at their shared home.

‘It is difficult to confirm at this point,’ YG Entertainment responded to the news.  

YG added: ‘[Blackpink] will repay with good music and positive news as fans have waited for a long time. We would be thankful if [fans] wait for official announcements made in the future. We ask for your understanding.’

In 2019, they announced their world tour, performing in Sydney and Rosé’s hometown Melbourne to thousands of dedicated Blinks. 

They would be the first female K-Pop group to have an international documentary released on a major streaming platform. 

Male idols like Jay Park and Big Bang have previously had YouTube Red series, as well as BTS’ documentaries which were also released in cinemas.
