CBS announced last week that The Big Bang Theory one-hour series finale will air Thursday, May 16.

The network also renewed the spin-off Young Sheldon for two more seasons.

After months of rumors, it was confirmed in August that Season 12 of The Big Bang Theory would be its last.

Shortly thereafter, it was revealed by Entertainment Weekly that the show was coming to an end because Parsons was ready to move on.

CBS was negotiating with Parsons, and his cast mates Bialik, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar and Johnny Galecki, for two more seasons, which could have earned the group more than $50 million in profits.

In January, Parsons finally opened up about why he wanted to leave the series, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

‘It’s both as complex and as simple as just feeling innately that it was time. It speaks to a lot of things, none of them bad. There is no negative reason to stop doing Big Bang,’ Parsons said.

‘It felt like we have been able to do this for so many years now, it doesn’t feel like there is anything left on the table,’ he added. ‘Not that we couldn’t keep doing it, but it feels like we’ve chewed all the meat off this bone.’
