Kangaroos hop a red light in Facebook video

  • Two quick kangaroos narrowly escape being hit by cars at a busy intersection
  • One falls in the middle of the road and is forced to madly scramble to safety
  • Drivers take to Facebook to mock the kangaroos for ‘being drunk’ on the road

It was a very close shave for two kangaroos who apparently misunderstood the rules for right of way at a multi-directional roundabout.

Dashcam footage caught the two roos madly hopping across the road in front of a cautious driver attempting to turn right, as cars drove by and prepared to turn all around them.

One kangaroo keeps his eye on the prize and heads straight for the median strip, but his clumsy friend is left behind as he falls in the middle of the road and desperately scrambles to get out of the way.

Plenty of Aussie drivers have taken to Facebook to express their concern or amusement, with one man writing that is was probably just ‘Skippy and his mates off to schoolies’.

The comment prompted others in the same vein, with one man suggesting that the authorities should ‘breath test the one on the right – he’s definitely on something’.

‘Yeah, that roos definitely been drinking,’ chimed in another, suggesting that he be charged with leaving the scene of an accident and ‘speed hopping’.

‘Bloody roos should be licensed, insured and have rego plates so that they can be accountable. And they should stay off the roads and use the Roo Lanes,’ grumbled one man, who said that almost hitting kangaroos on the road was a daily occurrence on the NSW south coast.

Another voiced concern for the apparently stranded marsupials, commenting, ‘I feel for our kangaroos. Developers are building where they once grazed in peace. They have no where to go.’

One even complained that the video would only reinforce the stereotype that Australia is just full of stray kangaroos: ‘Jesus, the Yanks already think we have roos running down the streets everywhere…Guess they’re right.’
