Tom Pickert, 39, was found shot dead outside his home in Brookside, Kansas City just after 8am on Wednesday after he returned from taking his sons to school
A Kansas City attorney has been shot dead while sitting on his front porch after he had just returned from walking his two children to school.
Tom Pickert, 39, was found murdered outside his home in Brookside just after 8am on Wednesday.
Police, who say the shooting wasn’t random, are still hunting for his killer who witnesses say sped away from the scene in a white 1997 Chevrolet van.
The vehicle was found abandoned later on Wednesday afternoon.
Police said Pickert’s wife was home at the time and found her husband dead on their front porch.
The van was registered to David Jungerman who was a defendant in a case that Pickert recently tried, Fox4KC reports.
Pickert, who was a personal injury attorney at Fowler Pickert, LLC had represented a homeless man who was suing Jungerman for shooting him and causing him to lose part of his leg.
The attorney won the case for his client, which resulted in Jungerman having to pay $5.75 million in damages.

Court officials started the process last week of seizing Jungerman’s property, including his home and Kansas City business.
Police have not released any details about a motive for Pickert’s murder.
The slain attorney’s law firm would not comment.
His wife works as a doctor for the University of Kansas Health System.
‘We learned earlier today that the husband of a physician at The University of Kansas Health System was killed as the result of a violent crime,’ said Jill Chadwick, Health System spokeswoman.
‘We are a family at The University of Kansas Health System, and we are stunned and saddened. Right now our thoughts are with this doctor, her family, and all those close to her. We offer our support for our co-worker and her family today and in the days and weeks ahead.’
