Kanye West is reportedly going to debut his much-anticipated Season 6 Yeezy collection during Paris Fashion Week – almost one year to the day after his wife Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in the city.
The 40-year-old rapper and designer, who skipped the chance to put on another New York Fashion Week show this season, is said to be preparing to show his latest line in a more intimate, private setting, opting for a showroom presentation rather than a catwalk event.
An image shared on the official Twitter account for Donda, a creative company set up by West, shows what is though to West’s invitation – a nude colored sports sock with Season 6 written up the side of the ankle in white.
Interesting choice: Kanye West will debut Yeezy Season 6 at Paris Fashion Week, one year after Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint. The couple is pictured before the incident last year
A clue? The official Twitter account for Donda, a creative company started by West, 40, shared an image of this Yeezy Season 6 sock, which is thought to be the official invite
Upset: Kim has not been back to Paris since the robbery, and a rep has already confirmed that she will not attend fashion week there this season because of ‘work commitments’
The sock is pictured sitting on a brown envelope.
Donda’s Twitter gave very little away in terms of the time and date of the upcoming event, simply captioning the image Season 6.
The news of Kanye’s potential collection debut comes just weeks after it was revealed that the rapper had made the decision not to take part in New York Fashion Week, having spent years stirring up speculation, and a fair share of controversy, with his bizarre catwalk shows.
A source told Daily Mail Online at the time that Kanye would instead hold a separate presentation after the hubbub of NYFW ended, proving once again that he’s not one to follow the typical fashion industry rules.
And it is likely that the presentation, which will take place at some point before the end of Paris Fashion Week’s last day on Tuesday, October 3, will be held almost a year to the day after reality star Kim was robbed in a luxury apartment while in the city for the very same fashion event.
A rep for the mother-of-two has already confirmed that Kim, who has not been back to Paris since the terrifying robbery took place, will not attend this season’s fashion week in the French capital, citing ‘work commitments’ as the reason behind her decision.
Too much? The robbers are said to have targeted Kim after she was seen showing off various pieces of bling on social media
Somber memories: Kim, 36, was said to have been traumatized by the end, and quickly returned back to New York to be at her husband’s side (pictured)
Missing: His shows (pictured: Season 3 in February 2016) are often huge, buzzed-about events
Her sister Kourtney is currently in the city, however, and will likely be attending a variety of different fashion week events while there; model Kendall Jenner is also in town in order to walk in a number of shows.
But the city does not hold positive memories for Kim, who had more than $10 million worth of jewelry stolen during the heist, during which masked men put a gun to her temple, and then left her tied up in the bathroom of her luxury residence in Paris.
Kim is said to have been traumatized by the horrifying incident, which took place during the early hours of the morning, after she had returned from a fashion week event.
Kanye was not in Paris with his wife, and was actually in New York performing at The Meadows music festival when he was informed about the robbery; he then cut his set short in order to be with his family and await Kim’s return from France.
Each fall, Kanye has typically held his show on the second Wednesday of NYFW, but fashion editors have been surprised to receive no invitations this year.
According to an article published on Harper’s Bazaar’s website which was later, the show had been cancelled because the Yeezy team ‘did not get the pieces together in time’.
A source at the haircare brand Redken claimed they had been called upon to style hair for the event but that it had since been called off.
Keeping low-key: They also have their share of drama, like the Season 4 show in September 2016, where models fainted thanks to the scorching heat
Later, gator: A source told Daily Mail Online that Kanye had a put a date on hold for his event in New York but decided not to use it
However, another source told Daily Mail Online that the Yeezy team had only put a ‘hold’ on September 13 at noon ‘in the event’ that Kanye actually decided he wanted to have the show then.
The Sept. 13 show was never confirmed on any NYFW schedule, the source added, and Kanye has decided instead to have his presentation or showroom showing at a later date.
There will still be a Season 6 of Yeezy, and the brand will release details soon.
According to People, the decision to do the show later this year may be due to Kanye having so many projects going at the same time.
When the star cancelled the end of his Saint Pablo Tour last November, a source told the magazine: ‘He’s just exhausted. He’s been working around the clock on fashion design, both on his own line and the Adidas line.
‘He’s a notorious workaholic, so balancing both that work — which is extremely important to him — and the rigors of the tour every night, it really wore him out.’
The news of a later, smaller-scale show may come as a relief to some fashion editors who, although often excited to be invited, have frequently taken to social media to complain about past shows.
While it is traditional for fashion shows to start a half hour past the scheduled time, Kanye’s shows often start more than an hour late, interfering with attendees’ schedules.
Family affair: Kanye’s shows have always been star-studded events, with plenty of A-list guests, including Kim and her family, who are pictured at the Season 3 event
Family first: It is not currently know whether Kim and Kanye, who are parents to four-year-old daughter North and 21-month-old son Saint, will attend the presentation in Paris
The Season 4 show, in particular, was plagued by controversy. Editors were shuttled from Midtown Manhattan to Roosevelt Island on buses, which took over an hour to arrive as they drove around New York. Guests then waited outside in the heat for hours before being welcomed to the staging area for the show.
And it wasn’t just the guests — a few of whom left before it was over — who had complaints. Several models tripped in ill-fitting shoes on the runway, while others nearly fainted in the heat.
The Season 2 show also had its share of drama, when Kanye ignored the traditional fashion show calendar and decided to schedule his show at the same time as other big-name designers.
However, Kanye’s shows have also featured quite a few big-name models, including his sister-in-law Kylie Jenner, Naomi Campbell, Amina Blue, and hijab-wearing model Halima Aden.
The front row is also often packed with stars, including most of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, Tyga, Jonathan Cheban, Anna Wintour, Jaden Smith, La La Anthony, Hailey Baldwin, Pharrell, Two Chainz, Lorde, Michael Strahan.
