Karl Stefanovic breaks down live on Today as he talks about his beloved mother Jenny

Today co-host Karl Stefanovic welled up live on the show on Friday when talking about his beloved mother Jenny. 

The 47-year-old got emotional and later spoke about the incident during a sweet Mother’s Day segment where Jenny, 72, made a surprise appearance. 

‘I had a thing in my eye!’ Karl sweetly claimed when asked about getting emotional on air. 

‘Hey Jenny, you would have heard, Karl was talking about you before and he got emotional,’ Karl’s co-host Allison Langdon began. 

‘I had a thing in my eye!’ Karl joked.  

Jenny, who appeared on the show alongside Ally, Brooke Boney and Alex Cullen’s mothers, said it was sweet of Karl to get emotional.

‘That was really nice of you Karl to do that, that sensitivity,’ Jenny said.

Karl quipped: ‘I’m very vulnerable. I guess I got that from dad!’ 

While on the show, Jenny said that as a kid, Karl used to always do pantomimes.

‘He used to do pantomimes and used to act quite well,’ she said.

Karl is the oldest brother of the Stefanovic clan, with Jenny also being mother to his siblings Peter Stefanovic, 40, and Tom Stefanovic, 37.

Jenny meanwhile, has developed an unlikely cult-like following on Instagram, as she shamelessly takes to the social media platform to dote over her famous son’s achievements.

She boasts over 1,500 followers.

A glance at Jenny’s profile reveals she’s her son’s biggest fan, as she regularly shares current and throwback photographs, even posting newspaper and media clippings.

During the height of Peter and Karl’s controversial ‘Ubergate’ scandal, protective mother hen Jenny even weighed in on her sons’ firings in a candid post.

She wrote: ‘[My sons have] seen suffering and devastation throughout the world. They have all worked hard for themselves and the Nine Network and they will overcome these changes as well.’

She is also a doting grandmother to her grandchildren and often appears on the social media pages of her daughter-in-laws Jasmine Stefanovic and Sylvia Jeffreys.
