Karl Stefanovic’s Ubergate scandal has come back to haunt him while discussing Australia’s latest political scandal.
The mystery person who allegedly leaked scathing text messages between former NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and a current minister labelling Prime Minister Scott Morrison as a ‘psycho’ and ‘horrible person’ is urged to come clean and scandal makes headlines for a third day.
Stefanovic weighed into the saga on the Today show on Thursday, describing it as a low act and branded the person who leaked the texts as a coward.
The comments prompted co-host Allison Langdon to remind him that he too was embroiled up in a similar scandal almost four years ago when a private conversation with his brother Peter in the back of a Uber was leaked to the media.

‘Can we have a moment to….I need to say this,’ Stefanovic began.
‘For whoever it was who sent that message, no matter how much you hate someone, it is a pretty low act and, you know, whoever did that is a complete and utter coward in not coming forward.
‘I think that makes it even worse. I mean, bagging your work colleagues like that.’
Langdon interrupted: ‘Hang on, hang on, hang on. What the would you prefer to do? To say something about people in the back of an Uber or something?’
The remark stunned Stefanovic, federal Senator Jacqui Lambie and 2GB Chris Smith who were appearing on the program at the time.

Senator Lambie quickly brought the conversation back on track.
‘I think it is the Today love show.’ she quipped.
‘But quite frankly, if you want the tap to stop drip coming out, stop being a little text warrior.
‘Come out and be honest and let’s move it on. Can we move it on please, because there is a lot of crap throughout that needs to be fixed.’

In 2018, Stefanovic and brother Peter were embroiled in a ‘Ubergate’ scandal after their private phone conversation in a taxi was leaked to the media.
The two brothers criticised Nine staffers and executives as Karl’s brother complained about his role on Weekend Today.
‘I hate working news, I’m dying on the inside and it makes me feel horrible,’ the Uber driver allegedly overheard Peter telling his older brother.
‘The life is draining out of me. I’m so much better than this and can do so much more, it’s the worst four days each week and I should be doing more.’
His anchor brother Karl suggested he cheer himself up with a modest $60,000 pay rise – and unloaded on his co-star Georgie Gardner.
Peter left Channel Nine months later while Karl’s 14-year stint on the Today show came to an end of 2018.
Karl returned to role as Today show co-host in 2020, a year after he was unceremoniously dumped.
