Karl Stefanovic watches the State of Origin game in Europe as Today show continues to struggle in ratings battle with Sunrise after Matt Shirvington’s debut as new host

Karl Stefanovic is continuing to live it up on his European summer holiday with his wife Jasmine – as Today show ratings remain well behind rival Sunrise. 

The Channel Nine breakfast show host, 48, went to extra lengths to watch the State of Origin II game, tuning into 9Now on his mobile phone while while sitting in a cafe and enjoying a coffee.

Sharing a photo of the moment to his Instagram account, the Maroons team supporter smiled as he held up his phone that displayed the broadcast.

‘Thanks to the Lord for 9Now,’ he wrote alongside the photo. ‘Queenslander!!!’

Meanwhile, back in Australia, the Today show still continues struggle in the ratings battle with Sunrise after former Olympic sprinter Matt Shirvington’s debut as host last week.

He replaced David Koch, who retired from the show after a record 21 years on the job. 

Latest ratings show 245,000 metro viewers tuned in to see the new host sit alongside Natalie Barr on the Channel Seven breakfast program.

Meanwhile, Today landed 192,000 in the metro market as co-host Sarah Abo was joined by James Bracey – who is filling in during Karl’s holiday.

Shirvo’s first day last Monday saw some 235,000 metro viewers tune in, which was deemed impressive for the King’s Birthday public holiday.

As for Today show last Monday, they drew 188,000 in the metro market.

Last week, Karl and his wife Jasmine attended chicken heiress Tamie Ingham and Guillaume Brahimi’s wedding in Paris.

Karl and Jasmine, who married in 2018, introduced their respective friends Guillaume and Tamie to each other in 2020. 

The ‘socialite wedding of the year’ included many guests from Australia’s showbiz, business, and media circles.

At both the pre-wedding event and the lavish day, several stars took to Instagram and social media to share their own special moments.
