Karol G took to her main Instagram page on Thursday to slam GQ Mexico for photoshopping both her face and body on its recent April/May cover.
The Colombian-born singer, 32, who recently wowed at the Billboard Women In Music Awards last month in March, posted a lengthy message to her 61.2 million fans and followers to call out the publication.
Along with a selfie showing the natural structure of her face, the TQG hitmaker additionally posted the cover itself to show contrasting differences. The cover is notably a part of the magazine’s Global Creativity Awards issue.
In the caption, which was written in Spanish, the performer typed out, ‘I don’t even know where to start this message…Today my GQ magazine cover was made public, a cover with an image that does NOT represent me.
‘My face doesn’t look like that, my body doesn’t look like that and I feel very happy and comfortable with how I look naturally,’ she further expressed.

She then explained that she had been grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with the magazine, ‘but despite making clear my disagreement with the number of editions that they did to the photo, they did nothing about it, as if to look good I needed all those changes.’
‘I understand the repercussions that this can have, but beyond feeling that it is disrespectful to me, it is women who wake up every day looking to feel comfortable with ourselves despite society’s stereotypes,’ Karol G concluded.
The Provenza singer has previously advocated for body positivity and confidence with oneself.
During an interview with Harper’s Bazaar earlier this year in February while promoting her new Mañana Será Bonito album, she admitted to the outlet, ‘I realized that my first love, my forever, and the love of my life, was going to be me always.’
While talking to Billboard that same month, Karol G, whose real name is Carolina Giraldo Navarro, discussed the important lessons she has learned over time.
‘Something very beautiful is that I reached a point where I was tired of trying to fit into many situations: The way I talk, they way I dress, the way my body looks. I needed to let go,’ the star explained.
The singer-songwriter then opened up about today’s society and stated, ‘This generation is always told how to be all the time: how to post a photo to get more likes, how to talk so you’re seen as nice or cool, how to dress.’
‘When at the end of the day, they should be teaching that it’s amazing that you’re you — because everyone needs to meet different people to continue to grow and evolve and learn.’

Shortly after uploading the post on her Instagram page, which has currently garnered over 2 million likes, social media users jumped to the comment section to show their support for the singer.
Fellow musician, Prince Royce, typed out, ‘They went too far,’ while another follower added, ‘Total admiration.’
Another expressed their gratitude for Karol G coming forward and calling out the magazine by adding, ‘We love youuuuuuu Thank you thank you thank you.’
One fan also applauded the star and penned, ‘bravo for the strength and bravery speaking up about this,’ followed by clapping hand emojis.

The reggaetón singer had gotten candid during her interview with GQ, such as discussing her split from fiance and Puerto Rican rapper, Anuel AA.
The two were first romantically linked in 2018, and became engaged later that same year. However, the two went their separate ways in 2021, ending their engagement.
‘I wanted to die, I was crying horribly,’ she recalled to the publication. Karol then explained that her most recent album, Mañana Será Bonito, which was released earlier in February, had been a way for her to cope and to also give inspiration to listeners.
‘I wanted to tell people, ‘It doesn’t matter. Everything is going to be fine,’ the star revealed. The translation of the album’s title is Tomorrow Will Be Beautiful.
In regards to how music has helped her during the hard times in her life, she stated, ‘It’s taught me how to liberate my emotions. I feel that when listeners sing my songs with me, it’s my way of connecting with them. And if I see someone crying, I’ll start to cry with them.’
Karol G has previously expressed the ‘confidence’ she has gotten from her listeners and fans over time.
‘I got that confidence from my followers,’ she had told Billboard. ‘I’ve always said they and I have a very close relationship, even if we don’t know each personally, and with my music and my personality I make them feel a certain way, and they do the same.’
