Kasey Chambers likes to keep things natural.
But in her new book, Just Don’t Be A D**khead, the singer admits that she was once pressured to undergo cosmetic procedures.
The 48-year-old was attending the Golden Guitar awards in Tamworth years ago, when it was suggested to her, ‘You could definitely do with some Botox, love.’
‘I make that out to be a bit of joke in the book but I remember that moment like someone was sticking a needle in my eye … it made my toes curl,’ she tells Adelaide Now this week.
‘This is what’s wrong with the world. I didn’t even have as many wrinkles as I do now but looking back now, I thank that woman for that moment because I was sitting there feeling like that for all women, to not be okay with that’ she continued.
‘I was thinking “No, I’m not going to buy into that”‘ a defiant Kasey said.
‘I was brought up by a woman who wasn’t defined by her looks, I wrote a song for her about that (called Mother) with the line “Light a room with the lines on your face.” I see beauty in my lines.
Kasey rose to fame with the success of her first album, The Captain, in 1999, and has been a force in country music ever since.

Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald recently, Kasey said she’s never taken her career too seriously.

‘I don’t worry about things too much,’ she added.
‘Maybe that comes with age anyway, but I don’t think I would be able to cope in this industry if I did take myself too serious.’
