Princess Diana won over crowds when she took part in her son’s sports day back in 1989.

And today her daughter-in-law the Duchess of Cambridge proved she has the same carefree spirit as she got stuck into children’s games at a charity polo match.

Wearing a £39.99 Zara dress and a pair of high street heels, Kate threw herself into the fun by chasing Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

The trio made a surprise appearance at Wiliam’s match in Tetbury and were joined by the children of Peter Phillips seven-year-old Savannah and her sister Isla, six.

William, 35, was competing in the Maserati Royal Charity Polo Trophy at Beaufort Polo Club in Gloucestershire, just a day after taking part in the show-stopping Trooping the Colour parade in London.

And his wife delighted fans with a surprise appearance on Sunday afternoon as she, George and Charlotte descended on Tetbury for a day of family fun.

Kate looked every inch the doting mother as she kept a watchful eye on George, four, and Charlotte, three.

And she threw herself into the merriment too by chasing the youngsters around and helping them down the helterskelter.

The duchess echoed her mother-in-law’s fun spirit by racing the little ones as the match commenced.

One photograph bears a striking resemblance to the moment the late Princess Diana won a running race against other parents at Prince William’s sports day in June 1989.

Wearing a white jumper and flowing skirt, the late royal delighted crowds as she beat fellow mothers.
