Kate Hudson leads worst-dressed at the SAG Awards

In order for there to be fashion successes on the red carpet, there also have to be risks that don’t quite hit the mark; a lesson multiple stars learned at the SAG Awards on Sunday.

This year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards certainly had some top competition for best-dressed on the carpet, but sadly the race was equally tight for the bottom rung, with Kate Hudson ultimately taking the crown.

The actress sparked jokes about ‘churning her own butter’ and auditioning for the ‘big-screen adaptation of Little Bow Peep’ online with her strange pink polka-dot outfit.

Topping the list: Kate Hudson’s bright pink gown had social media users joking that she was up for a role in the ‘big-screen adaptation of Little Bow Peep’

The get-up featured lace from the neck over the bust before meeting with a line of pink ruffles – and it only got worse from there.

Below a messily tied black ribbon, the skirt of the gown was lined with two levels of ruffles, and she paired the look with a brick-shaped pink marble clutch.

One thing that could be said about the dress was that it made Kate’s mother Goldie Hawn – who walked the carpet with her daughter – look all the more regal.

Before Kate’s arrival, actress Alison Brie took an early lead for worst-dressed in an 80s-inspired asymmetrical gown.

The red number appears to lean on the aesthetic of 35-year-old Alison’s hit show GLOW, with one long sleeve and a garish lightning bolt down one side.

The bolt, made up of multi-colored sequins holds together a slit down her side, just above another thigh-grazing slit in the gown’s skirt.

But even more baffling were the gowns on Alison’s GLOW co-stars Kate Nash and Jackie Tohn, the former of whom strolled on the carpet in a layered, lace dress that had ruffles in all the wrong places.

Jackie took putting-a-bow-on it to a whole other level with her ensemble, including a pink, red and orange striped skirt topped with a bow so big it could stretch from shoulder to shoulder.

Alison Brie, who attended the event with husband Dave Franco, wasn’t the only lady in red missing the mark as she was joined by Maika Monroe – the main squeeze of Stranger Things’ Joe Keery.

The 24-year-old’s gown hung off her frame over a sports bra-like underlay, making her look like she was headed to the world’s glitziest spin class.

But even the veterans of the awards weren’t free from fumbles. Decorated actress Laura Linney, 53, was left buried under swathes of pink in a shapeless gown with a built-in cape.

Capes were the faux-pas fad of the 2018 run, it seems, as Mad Men star Cara Buono, made a similar slip with a lace gown of a mess of colors with a black-outlined sheer cape trailing behind her.

Susan Sarandon was spotted showing off her ever spectacular figure, but caused a hitch in her overall style with a massive pair of cat-eye shades. The specs clashed with her blue off-the-shoulder sparkling gown.

Twinning in too much silver were The Detour’s Natalie Zea and Allison Janney, who wore startlingly similar sparkle-drenched dresses that covered them from wrists to neck to toe.
