Kate Langbroek is reportedly leaving the Hit Network ‘at the end of the year’.

According to industry website TV Blackbox, the 54-year-old will not be hosting the Hughesy & Kate drive time show in 2020.

It’s believed that Ed Kavalee, the host of 2Day FM’s newly-axed breakfast show, will be replacing Kate alongside comedian Dave Hughes.

Ed, 40, has recently been filling in for Kate and will transition into her ‘permanent replacement’ next year, reports TV Blackbox.

While there are few confirmed details about Kate’s departure, it is understood she did not want to commit to a long-term contract.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted the Hit Network for comment.

In January, Kate relocated to Bologna, Italy with her husband Peter and four children, Lewis, Sunday, Artie and Jan, for a year-long ‘gap year’.

Despite the time zone difference, she has continued to co-host her radio show with Hughesy, 48, from a home studio.

The Hughesy and Kate partnership began in 2001, when the pair joined Dave O’Neil as hosts of Nova 100’s inaugural breakfast show.

They left Nova in late 2013, jumping ship to KIIS the following year.

Their stint at KIIS lasted until 2017, when they signed with Southern Cross Austereo and replaced Hamish & Andy as Hit Network’s drive time show.

The rumours about Kate’s departure come after SCA confirmed on Thursday that 2Day FM’s breakfast show Ed, Grant & Ash had been cancelled.

The axing marked the sixth failed attempt by 2Day FM to launch a successful breakfast show following Kyle and Jackie O’s departure in 2014.

Ed, Grant & Ash will be temporarily replaced by a music-only program, before a new lineup is officially announced by the network.

Last month, the show recorded just a 3.1 per cent market share.
