Kate Middleton wears the Queen and Princess Diana’s jewellery to Scottish Coronation

Kate’s touching tribute: Princess of Wales opts for Diana’s bracelet and earrings while wearing the late Queen’s choker for ‘Scottish Coronation’

The Princess of Wales paid a sweet tribute to her husband’s late mother and grandmother today as she wore their jewellery to King Charles’ Scottish Coronation.

Kate, 41,  looked regal in a bespoke Catherine Walker coat dress, which she has worn several times in the past, as she joined other senior royals for a regal procession through Edinburgh.

And in a touching nod to the late Queen, Kate opted to wear Her Majesty’s pearl choker – which was also worn by Diana. The royal wore the same necklace to both the Queen and Prince Philip’s funerals.

She also wore beautiful pearl bracelet which originally belonged to Diana.

This is not the first time Kate has worn the iconic piece, as she wore it in 2017 whilst visiting Germany, and many times since.

The bracelet was famously worn by Diana in 1989 when she toured Hong Kong with Prince Charles.

The bracelet’s designer Nigel Milne was surprised to see the jewellery been worn again decades after he created the piece in 1988.

Milne and his wife Cherry decided to produce several pieces of jewellery with proceeds of the sales going to charity BIRTHRIGHT, of which Diana was patron.

One of the pieces was the bracelet that could be seen adorning Kate’s wrist and that Diana wore on several occasions including at the Birthright Ball in 1989 and with her iconic Catherine Walker ‘Elvis’ dress.

Kate also added a further tribute to the last Princess of Wales, by wearing her earrings.

At today’s event, Kate swept her hair into a stunning up do and opted for neutral makeup, with a sweep of eyeliner and a touch of blusher.

The ceremony, at St Giles’ Cathedral, is a key part of Royal Week, with Charles and Camilla undertaking several engagements in Scotland.

And despite the formality of the occasion, it appeared Kate was in a playful mood – at one point in the service, tapping her husband gently on the behind.

It’s a move Kate has been seeing performing a number of times in the past few months, and continues to be a rare public display of affection for the couple.

She playfully tapped him on the behind during their day at the Royal Ascot last month, and also sent royal fans wild when she performed the same gesture on the red carpet at the BAFTAs in February.
