She’s been married to Mike Heron since 2010, five years after they first met, and the couple now share two children: Wilbur and Clemency.
But, Kate Silverton has revealed that she needed therapy to choose between boyfriends AFTER meeting her now-husband, and admitted she ‘thanked him’ for waiting while she dated other men.
The Strictly star, 50, explained that she was such a commitment-phobe that she continued to date other men, even though she knew Mike was ‘The One,’ and sought help from a therapist who told her that she was the problem – not the men.

Kate met her husband, former Royal Marine Mike Heron during a week long war zone training course back in 2005, but claims she felt ‘scared’ about committing to him because she knew he was ‘The One’.
After dating other men, the presenter eventually decided to fully commit to Mike and admitted on the White Wine Question Time podcast that she feels ‘thankful’ that he understood she needed to ‘get it out of her system’.
Kate said: ‘[After the course] he reached out. It was not for quite some months after but we met again.
‘I think we knew but I was such a commitment-phobe. I did start and stop a few times once we did decide to get together.

What? The Strictly star explained that she was such a commitment-phobe that she continued to date other men, even though she knew Mike was ‘The One’ (pictured in 2019)
‘I actually went to a therapist and said ‘look seriously I’ve got these men and I can’t choose between them, I’ve got this problem and I just need help with it please’.
‘She said, “look, my dear, the problem is not with them, it is with you”.’
The broadcaster added: ‘I’ve been really lucky and have had lovely, lovely boyfriends. But there was always this “where’s the one and will I know it”. When I met Mike, I knew [he was the one] and that just scared me.
‘How can I trust this feeling? I’m 35 and have met lots of lovely men. He was this lovely man but we seemed quite worlds a part in terms of where we came from.’

Kate, who is still in touch with her previous boyfriend, said: ‘It happened over time, I don’t like to overlap [relationships]. I really wanted to give that relationship a chance to see what was working there.
‘It then just became really obvious and I had to have that honest conversation of just saying “look I’ve met somebody”. I actually dated other men as well.
‘I broke up with Mike again and [other men] kept saying to me “look you’re obviously in love with this guy Mike, what are you doing?” And I said “really? Is it that obvious?”
‘I thanked [Mike] for waiting and he said “look you obviously needed to get this out of your system”. I think it was that thing of “he’s the one” and that’s it then, that’s it for life.
No way! The broadcaster admitted that after initially ditching Mike, she eventually decided to commit and ‘thanked him’ for waiting while she dated other men after (Pictured in 2009)
‘There was something in that that I had to unpick and thankfully my gorgeous hubby got it. He just said “do your thing”.
‘Then thankfully I understood what it was which had been sending me off all over the place and made that commitment, and we’ve never looked back. He’s my soulmate.
‘My therapist, who is now a friend, came to the wedding and said “everyone says he’s lucky to have you but let me tell you, you are bl**dy lucky to have him”.’
Kate – who is now doing a Masters in child psychotherapy – tied the knot with Mike in 2010 after he proposed in Rome, and now share two children.
