Kate Spade’s grieving father dies a day before her funeral

Kate Spade’s grief-stricken father died on Wednesday, a day before the late fashion designer’s funeral.

Earl F. Brosnahan Jr., 89, died on Wednesday in Kansas City, Missouri. According to a family statement provided to The Blast, he was heartbroken over his daughter’s suicide and they believe it contributed to his passing. 

The rest of the family went ahead with Kate’s funeral as planned. 

Her mother, June, died in 2010. On Thursday, her siblings and husband laid her to rest.

Kate Spade was laid to rest on Thursday in Kansas City, Missouri.  The order of service included a photograph of the iconic designed kissing her daughter Beatrice, who is now a teenager, when she was a toddler

Mourners were seen arriving at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish Redemptorist Church of Perpetual Help Parish Redemptorist Church carrying her iconic handbags. 

The congregation sang The First Noel and a rendition of Imagine, her favorite song, was also played at Thursday’s service. 

Her husband Andy gave a eulogy and other members of her family also spoke.  Her mother died in 2010.  

The iconic handbag designer was found dead at her apartment in Manhattan on June 5. 

She had hanged herself and made reference to marital problems in the suicide note she left to her daughter.

She and her husband Andy had been living separately in the months before her death. 

They were married for 24 years.

Members of her family, including her niece, actress Rachel Brosnahan, wore colorful outfits in a tribute to her bright character.   

On the cover of the funeral program, Kate appeared with her daughter Beatrice.

The photograph was taken when she was a toddler. She is now a teenager. 

Among the mourners were people who had not seen the designer since they went to high school with her. 

They turned out carrying her eponymous handbags, wallets and dresses in a show of support for the family.

Kate Spade was found dead at the age of 55 on June 5. She had killed herself by hanging
