One of Australia’s most-loved comedy shows has finally made its way to Netflix.

It’s time to pour a glass of chardonnay and set up the deck chair, as Kath & Kim is now available to stream in Australia and New Zealand.

The ABC sitcom follows the misadventures of a self-indulgent mother and daughter duo, played by actresses Gina Riley and Jane Turner.

The TV show originally aired between 2002 and 2007 and was broadcast in several other countries, including the UK.

The cast also included Magda Szubanski as Kim’s ‘second best friend’ Sharon, as well as Glenn Robbins and Peter Rowsthorn.

The Kath and Kim characters debuted in the early ’90s as part of a weekly segment on Channel Seven comedy series Big Girl’s Blouse.

Kath & Kim won two Logie Awards for Outstanding Comedy Programme and also an Australian Film Institute Award for Best Television Drama Series.

As a bonus for Netflix subscribers, special episodes including Kath & Kim: Kountdown and Kath & Kim: The Souvenir Editions will also be available.

In an interview with The Australian in December 2015, Gina spoke about how all-consuming working on the show was.

‘Kath & Kim took over our lives and there was no room for Jane and me to do anything else,’ said Gina. ‘It is a big workload when you create, write, produce and are in something.’

At the time, Gina said that fans shouldn’t expect a reboot anytime soon, as she felt she had outgrown the eternally youthful Kim.

‘I think Jane could play Kath forever, but 95 per cent I think it’s over for me,’ she said. ‘Doing “25 and five-quarters” – Kim’s age – has taken its toll and I’m too old for it now.’
