Katharine McPhee, 40, reveals how she really feels about her husband David Foster turning 75

Katharine McPhee has opened up about the subject of age in her marriage with music legend David Foster.

The 40-year-old singer, who wed the 75-year-old producer in 2019,  said they ‘aren’t fighting age’ in their relationship.

The former American Idol contestant told People magazine that she and her husband ‘welcomed’ their birthday milestones this year.

‘Honestly, I think that we’re both very similar in this way. I welcomed my 40s, and David didn’t have any conversations about, like, “Oh, I can’t believe I’m 75,” or I didn’t say, like, “Oh, I can’t believe I’m 40. I’m really mourning that.”

‘We didn’t do any of that. So, we’re kind of both cut from the same cloth. It’s like we sort of just accept life as it comes, and we’re not fighting getting older, because it just keeps getting better,’ the star explained.

McPhee and Foster are mom and dad to three-year-old son Rennie, and they previously opened up about sometimes clashing on their parenting styles.

‘I want to start disciplining [Rennie] and Kat’s not really down with that,’ Foster told People in November 2023.

Meanwhile, the songstress clarified: ‘No, that’s not true. I just want to discipline in my own way.’

She later noted, ‘It’s just a different approach. I think his era of parenting is different than mine.’

McPhee explained: ‘There’s the more old-fashioned way of disciplining which involves time-outs and things like that.

‘My take is that you can have more mindful parenting opposed to just assuming that a two or three-year-old can have time alone to reflect on what they’ve done poorly.’

The singer-songwriter added, ‘I think the more new way of parenting is understanding that with a child, there’s only so much that they can intellectually understand.

‘Saying “That was really bad, that was really, really bad,” gets into a shaming thing. I think disciplining is something that happens over time.’

David was married to B.J. Cook from 1972 to 1981, and they share 51-year-old daughter Amy, 51.

He went on to marry Rebecca Dyer in 1982 and they welcomed Sara, 43, Erin, 42, and Jordan, 37, but divorced in 1986.

He was married to Linda Thompson from 1991-2005 and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills personality Yolanda Hadid from 2011-2017.

The Grammy-winning musician also has 55-year-old daughter Allison, who was born when he was 20 and adopted as a baby before reuniting with him in adulthood.

Foster rang in his 75th November 1 birthday on November 3 with a celebrity-filled concert called You’re the Inspiration: David Foster produced by Live Nation-Hewitt Silva.

It was held at the storied Hollywood Bowl amphitheaters, with Katharine performing alongside heavy hitters Andrea Bocelli, Kristin Chenoweth, and Jennifer Hudson among others.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, she shared behind-the-scenes clips from the celebration and wrote: ‘What an absolutely magical night celebrating my husband at the Hollywood Bowl. Thank you Los Angeles for celebrating with us last night!’

And sharing a snapshot of her, David, and Rennie in a separate post from a rehearsal, she said: ‘my whole world in one photo. #hbd @davidfoster.’
