Katharine McPhee stifles a yawn on Chelsea shopping trip with mum Patricia

She has just started her leading West End role as pie maker Jenna in the musical Waitress at London’s Adelphi theatre.

And Katharine McPhee looked weary as she stifled a yawn on a shopping trip with her mother Patricia in Chelsea on Tuesday, after another late night on stage.

The American Idol star, 34, cut a stylish figure in a plush black furry coat and jeans as she walked along the King’s Road with her mum and beloved Chihuahua, Wilmer.

Katharine added a boost to her height with snakeskin print ankle boots and shielded her tired eyes with a pair of black aviators, while Patricia wore an identical faux-fur coat and blue knitted midi dress.

The Smash actress tied half her brown hair up in a yellow scrunchie and showcased her natural beauty with a minimal make-up look.

Katharine doted on Wilmer as she carried him in a dog carrier after he grew weary exploring the sights of Chelsea.

Despite feeling tired, Katharine managed to squeeze in some retail therapy and was laden with bags as she emerged from high-end french designer store, The Kooples.

It was an early start for the musical theatre star, who earlier on Tuesday, discussed her relationship with the Duchess of Sussex during an appearance on Good Morning Britain.

The actress claimed Meghan Markle had star power from a young age and was ‘always lovely and talented’ after she posted a picture of the pair as children on Instagram.

Discussing how the picture came about, Katharine clarified: ‘I went to school with Meghan. I was in middle school when she was in high school.

‘My sister was in her class, she was always lovely and always talented.

‘I just saw her last week, I do have a picture, I did get to reunite with her which was so sweet! I did a couple of shows with her but I was younger and wasn’t allowed to be in the more major roles with shows, I did musicals with her.

‘When she was getting married I was going to post a picture with her, but [I did it] when I had something to promote [the musical], and it became a much bigger thing.’

Katharine expressed her hopes that Megan and her husband Prince Harry might put in an appearance at her West End show.

She said: ‘We did invite her, we’re friends with other friends of hers so we’re going to try to get her to come to the show.’

During her appearance on GMB, Katharine also touched upon her relationship with her fiancé David Foster, 69.

The brunette beauty credited the music boss – who has won 16 Grammy Awards and worked with the likes of Whitney Houston – for helping her nail her performance in West End musical Waitress.

‘When I’m in the shower sometimes I’ll think, “Oh that doesn’t sound so good”, it’s more when he comes to show that I get nervous, if I have little intonation in the voice he’ll hear it’, she explained.
