In a world full of ‘Nepo Babies,’ Kathie Lee Gifford has made an effort to keep her kids out of the spotlight.
As the Emmy Award winner, 70, and daughter Cassidy, 30, spoke to the New York Post, Gifford explained how she and her late husband approached raising their children.
‘Frank and I were both very careful to raise our children,’ she said. ‘We didn’t want them to be one more spoiled brat in Hollywood kind of thing.’
Kathie Lee married NFL retiree and sportscaster Frank Gifford in 1986, and they shared daughter Cassidy and son Cody, 34.
Frank died a week before his 85th birthday in 2015.

Although they raised their kids in Greenwich, Connecticut, Kathie Lee noted, ‘Spoiled brats are everywhere.’
‘Just watch the TV shows these days,’ she added. ‘And a lot of them grow up to be spoiled adults.’
Kathie Lee continued, ‘We were just really crazed about making them incredibly polite.’
‘That was so important to me that anytime we left our home and we were with other people or we were in public,’ she explained.
The TV host said that she made her daughter ‘a maniac’ about manners.
‘If a waitress brought her something, Cassidy would say “thank you.” And then if she didn’t say anything, Cassidy would go, “Thank you!”‘ recalled Kathie Lee.
‘And then she’d walk away and Cassidy would go, “She didn’t say thank you, mommy.”‘
‘I raised a very kind person,’ raved Kathie Lee. ‘And Cody is the same way.’
Cassidy is an actress who has starred in movies like God’s Not Dead and shows like The Baxters.
Founder of Gifford Media Group, Cody is a writer and producer.

‘Their careers are their careers and I wish them well, and I’ll help them if they need it,’ explained Kathie Lee.
‘But for the most part, once my children were adults, I tried to stay out of their lives,’ she added. ‘If they need me, they’ll call me and tell me. But I’m not a hoverer.’
Kathie Lee became a grandmother of three in November when Cody and wife Erika Brown welcomed their second child.
The couple shares 4-month-old son Ford Matthew and Frank Michael, 21 months.
Cassidy previously welcomed baby Finn with husband Ben Wierda in June 2023.
