Kathie Lee Gifford has cheekily described the man of her dreams as a ‘hedge fund guy’ who ‘loves Jesus’ and ‘has his own teeth’ while opening about her new dating life on The Dr. Oz Show.
The 66-year-old sat down with Dr. Mehmet Oz on Friday’s episode to have a candid conversation about how her life has changed since she left the Today show and moved to Nashville, Tennessee, earlier this year.
The widow, whose husband Frank Gifford passed away in 2015, is back to dating for the first time in 33 years, and while she has been on a few dates, she admitted that she is a lot to handle.
Candid conversation: Kathie Lee Gifford, 66, opened up about her new dating life while chatting with Dr. Mehmet Oz on Friday’s episode of his eponymous talk show
Keeping it real: The widow, whose husband Frank Gifford passed away in 2015, said she’s been on a few dates, but she is a lot to handle. She recalled one guy calling her a ‘bucking bronco’
‘My life is exciting and I’m a load for any man. I am. I know that,’ she told Dr. Oz. ‘One guy I dated, somebody asked him, “What’s it like to go out with Kathie Lee Gifford?” I think he said, “She’s a bucking bronco.”‘
The host said he thought it was a ‘good description,’ and she agreed, saying: ‘I’m going to take that as a compliment.’
Kathie Lee was married to Frank from 1986 until his death, and in the years since, she has focused much of her attention on her children and her various work projects.
But this year, the former Today host stepped out on her comfort zone by going on a ‘few dates’ with a ‘very sweet guy’ who was exclusively identified by DailyMail.com as 56-year-old insurance salesman Randall ‘Randy’ Cronk.
‘We weren’t right for each other. I had a lot of fun, did a lot of dancing,’ she shared.
Dream guy? Kathie Lee joked that she is looking for a rich ‘hedge fund guy’ who ‘loves Jesus’ and still ‘has his own teeth’
‘You dance everywhere in Nashville. My life before, nobody in Greenwich, Connecticut, goes to honky-tonks and dances. They don’t do it,’ she explained.
‘There are behind their gates, looking at their hedge fund money and God bless them. I wish I had some hedge fund money,’ she joked. ‘If I could find a hedge fund guy and his money and he loves Jesus and he has his own teeth, am in. You know!’
Kathie Lee’s late husband certainly had money and was also a Christian, but he was far from a hedge fund manager.
Frank made a name for himself as an NFL star before he went on to a successful second career as a broadcaster on Monday Night Football.
Earlier this week, Kathie Lee appeared on the Today show for the first time since she left her former job in April to move to Nashville and pursue other projects.
Back in the game: The former Today host is dating for the first time in 33 years after being married to her husband Frank Gifford from 1986 until he died in 2015
Tell-all: Earlier this week, shespoke to her former co-host, Hoda Kotb, and her replacement, Jenna Bush Hager, about life after the Today show and her move to Nashville, Tennessee
During her chat with her former fourth-hour co-host, Hoda Kotb, and her replacement, Jenna Bush Hager, she dished about how she met Randy.
‘I went out with friends to a club to hear my favorite band down there, the Smoking Section. Tim Akers & the Smoking Section,’ she told Hoda and Jenna. ‘I went to hear them, and this sweet guy asked me to dance, and so I said, “OK.” And then he just disappeared into the crowd.
‘And then, you know, a couple weeks later, same band — Tim Akers & the Smoking Section — so we danced again,’ she continued. ‘And then we just went out a couple times. It was fun because I hadn’t been on a date in 33 years.’
Kathie Lee said she had ‘fun’ on the dates, but she confessed that it felt a bit strange to be going out with someone new after more than three decades.
‘It’s surreal,’ she said of the experience. ‘You know, it’s surreal. ‘Cause the world’s changed so much, you know. But he’s a gentleman, so it was fine. It was fine. It was fun. But then I got so busy. We’re just from different worlds.’
Date: Kathie Lee was asked about her love life after DailyMailTV spotted her dancing with 56-year-old insurance salesman Randall ‘Randy’ Cronk at a concert in July
Confession: ‘We just went out a couple times,’ she said. ‘It was fun because I hadn’t been on a date in 33 years’
Her comments about her dating life came after DailyMailTV revealed that she had been spotted giggling while out on a date with Randy at the outdoor concert in Franklin, Tennessee, in July.
The TV host was filmed dancing with Randy, although at the time, his identity remained a mystery until he was named exclusively by DailyMail.com.
Despite drawing attention from those around them, the two only appeared to have eyes for each other, with Kathie Leen seen throwing her arms around Randy’s neck at one point during the evening.
A bystander told DailyMailTV at the time: ‘She looked a little tipsy. She was having a great time dancing very intimately with a male friend. Retirement looks good on her.’
And while things might not have worked out between the couple, it seems Randy certainly enjoyed his brief romance with Kathie Lee while it lasted.
He even posted a lovey-dovey image of the two of them on his Facebook page, writing: ‘Awesome dance partner tonight.’
Heartbreaking: Kathie Lee was devastated by her husband’s death in 2015, but she appears open to dating again now that she has retired from television
Kathie Lee was devastated in 2015 when her husband of 29 years died just days before his 85th birthday. The couple has two children together: Cody Gifford, 29, and Cassidy Erin Gifford, 26.
When speaking to Access Live in 2018, Kathie Lee said she was opened to the possibility of dating again, but she also noted that she felt men think they have to live up to her former husband.
‘Some men are afraid of living up to the mantle of Frank Gifford, and there’s no reason for that,’ she said at the time.
‘Frank was just a flawed man like anybody else is. I didn’t know him as an eight-time Hall of Famer. He was my husband and he was my friend for four years before we fell in love.’
A month after her retirement, Kathie Lee told People she was finally ready to begin dating, but asserted: ‘I’m not interested in something that isn’t magnificent.
‘Do I need companionship? Yes, I do, and that’s one of the main reasons I moved to Nashville. Not that I’m looking for a man. What I’m looking for is an active, vibrant life.’
