Katie Holmes appeared to be in a delightful mood as she was pictured walking in New York City Monday afternoon.
The actress, 45, who is adapting to life as an empty nester – as her daughter Suri Cruise, 18, has moved out of state to attend college at Carnegie Mellon University – was clad in a colorful ensemble on the sunny day in the Big Apple.
The Dawson’s Creek actress was clad in a red coat with a black top and billowing black pants, rounding out the ensemble in ballet flats.
The Batman Begins actress, who beamed as she chat on a phone call on her stroll, donned brown-framed sunglasses with her brown locks parted and pulled back.
Holmes, who is mother to Suri with ex-husband Tom Cruise, 62, had a white canvas tote bag on her shoulder on the daytime outing.

An insider told Dailymail.com last month that Holmes will reunite with her daughter Suri at the end of this month at Carnegie Mellon University for the school’s family weekend.
Holmes is expected to travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to see her daughter at the school on September 27-28, the source said.
‘Katie looks forward to visiting her child at school, she is happy for her and wants to be a part of it,’ the source told Dailymail.com.
Holmes ‘attended Columbia University for a while and loved the experience so she is thrilled her girl will be going to college,’ the insider noted.
Holmes last month told the magazine Town & Country that she was ‘proud of’ Suri as she advanced in her education.
‘Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy,’ Holmes said.
Cruise is paying for Suri’s collegiate tuition, which is estimated at an annual rate of $65,000, as per the divorce agreement he and Holmes settled in 2012 following their split after a six-year marriage.
Court docs in the split indicated the A-list actor agreed to cover financial expenses for ‘medical, dental, insurance, education, college and other extracurricular costs.’

An insider close to the Top Gun: Maverick actor told Dailymail.com last month that Cruise ‘is fulfilling his obligation’ financially when it comes to his daughter.
‘Tom is indeed paying for Suri’s tuition, he has always paid for her schooling and would never stop as he is a stand-up guy,’ the insider said. ‘He has never hesitated paying his daughter’s child support and expenses. He does not go back on his word.’
Holmes has been keeping busy professionally as she plays Mrs. Webb in the Broadway revival of the Thornton Wilder’s play Our Town.
