Katie Taylor BEATEN by Chantelle Cameron in undisputed title fight as she suffers first loss

Katie Taylor is BEATEN for the first time in her professional career as Chantelle Cameron remains undisputed super-lightweight champion after putting on a dazzling display in Dublin

  • Chantelle Cameron handed Katie Taylor the first loss of her professional career
  • It went the distance with the judges scoring it 95-95, 96-94, 96-94 to Cameron
  • The decision seemed to stun everyone in the Dublin 3Arena on Saturday evening

A dark cloud is looming over Dublin after Katie Taylor suffered the first defeat of her professional career against Chantelle Cameron on Saturday evening. The British boxer did say she would ruin Taylor’s homecoming but very few people believed her.

Taylor’s highly anticipated bout against Cameron went the distance with the judges scoring it 95-95, 96-94, 96-94 in the favour of the visitor. A decision that shocked everyone in the Dublin 3Arena.

Perhaps what came before Taylor’s bout was an indication for how the night was going to go. Jose Felix beat Ireland’s Gary Cully after the 27-year-old’s coaches were forced to throw in the towel.

I had hoped that wouldn’t set the tone for what was to come and everything seemed to be going so well when Taylor made her way to the ring. It was a pinch me moment that had the hairs on the back of everyone’s neck standing up.

She looked confident but perhaps a little emotional as her fans chanted her name and the 3Arena transformed into the tricolours. However, once the fight started it was back to business.
