Brett Kavanaugh and his team may have sent text messages to former classmates and friends prior to Deborah Ramirez’s allegations of sexual misconduct being made public in order to refute her claims.

A mutual friend of Kavanaugh and Ramirez has reached out to the FBI with screenshots of text messages that suggest the Supreme Court nominee was discussing the sexual misconduct claims prior to them being published last week.

The friend, Kerry Berchem, emailed an FBI agent involved in the Kavanaugh investigation asking for them to look at the text message exchange, NBC News reports.

Berchem attended Yale with both Kavanaugh and Ramirez.

Deborah Ramirez has alleged Brett Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a drunken party at a Yale University dormitory in the early 1980s

The text exchange between Berchem and Karen Yarasavage, who is another friend of Kavanaugh’s, imply Kavanaugh had been personally speaking to friends about Ramirez’s claims prior to them appearing in the New Yorker.

In one of the texts, which was obtained by NBC, Yarasavage said she had been in contact with ‘Brett’s guy’ and with ‘Brett’ because he had asked her to defend him on the record about Ramirez’s claim he exposed himself to her at a drunken party at a Yale University dormitory in the early 1980s.

Other texts suggest Kavanaugh’s team had been communicating with his former Yale classmates before the story’s publication.

Yarasavage also indicated to Berchem that she had sent Kavanaugh a photo of their group of Yale friends from a wedding in 1997 – a decade after the alleged sexual misconduct occurred.

FBI agents interviewed Ramirez on Sunday in which she detailed her allegation that Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a party in the early 1980s when they were students at Yale University

The photo shows both Ramirez and Kavanaugh smiling alongside their friends.

In a text message sent last week before the Senate hearing, Berchem told her friend she recalled Ramirez trying to avoid Kavanaugh at the wedding.

During the Senate hearing last week, Kavanaugh told the committee he first learned of Ramirez’s allegations in the New Yorker article published on September 23.

It comes after FBI agents interviewed Ramirez on Sunday in which she detailed her allegation that Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a party in the early 1980s when they were students at Yale University.

Kavanaugh has denied Ramirez’s allegation.

Ramirez is also said to have provided investigators with the names of others who she said could corroborate her account.
