Keira Knightley is pregnant with baby number 2 as she shows off her bump at Chanel event in Paris

Keira Knightley confirmed her second pregnancy at the Chanel J12 cocktail party in Paris on Thursday, when she debuted her bump for the first time.

The actress, 34, placed a hand lovingly on her tummy as she headed to the event wearing a flowing white and cream dress in chiffon which highlighted her shape.

Her husband, ex-Klaxons musician, James Righton, 35, was also there to support her, holding hands with him as they made their grand arrival.

The couple married in France in May 2013 and they welcomed their first child, daughter Edie, in 2015.

Keira, who has been the Chanel ambassador since 2008, wore the new J12 white watch on her left wrist on the afternoon of the party.

Her floaty frock showed off the contours of her body as she walked. She paired it with gold sandal heels and wore her hair loose.

Candid: In January, Knightley told Balance magazine: ‘I don’t think we give women enough credit for the physical and emotional marathon they go through when becoming a mother’

Just two weeks ago, the English actress had made an appearance at the Chanel Mademoiselle Privé exhibition in Shanghai, China giving no hint that she was expecting her second child.

She had chosen to hide her tummy with a loose-fitting layered gossamer gown with ruffles down the front.

In January, Keira spoke about the challenges of motherhood and of juggling her career with caring for her daughter.

Love: She was accompanied by her husband, musician James Righton, 35, whom she married in 2013 in a ceremony in France

She previously said: 'I don’t think we give women enough credit for the physical and emotional marathon they go through when becoming a mother'

Adding: 'I come from a place of amazing privilege. I have an incredible support system; I’ve been unbelievably lucky in my career; I can afford good childcare, and yet I still find it really f***ing difficult'

The star of Colette and The Imitation Game added: ‘It’s OK to say that. It doesn’t mean I don’t love my kid, it’s just me admitting that the sleep deprivation, the hormonal changes, the shift in relationship with my partner, are all things that make me feel as if I’m failing on a daily basis. I have to remind myself that I haven’t failed, I’m just doing what I can do, but it’s not easy.’

In October last year, Keira lamented the pressure on new mothers to look immaculate after giving birth in a candid account of motherhood.

The actress wrote about the ‘vomit, the blood, the stitches’ as she went into labour in May 2015, just a day before the Duchess of Cambridge welcomed Princess Charlotte into the world.

Kate famously left hospital just seven hours after being admitted to the Lindo Wing with both Charlotte and Louis in April, sparking a fierce debate on post-baby bodies.

In her essay, The Weaker Sex, the Pirates of the Caribbean star contrasted Kate’s experience with her own, noting how the Duchess ‘was out of hospital seven hours later with her face made up and high heels on’.

She described childbirth as a battleground, and said women are encouraged to ‘hide their pain’ according to Refinery29.

She wrote: ‘My vagina split. You came out with your eyes open. Arms up in the air. Screaming. They put you on to me, covered in blood, vernix, your head misshapen from the birth canal. Pulsating, gasping, screaming.’

Writing about the first time she breastfed her daughter, the actress says: ‘You latched on to my breast immediately, hungrily, I remember the pain. The mouth clenched tight around my nipple, light sucking on and sucking out.

All the details: Keira was pictured leaving the event much later on, clutching a cute little Chanel bag in hand

‘I remember the s***, the vomit, the blood, the stitches. I remember my battleground. Your battleground and life pulsating. Surviving. And I am the weaker sex? You are?’

The essay was published in Feminists Don’t Wear Pink (And Other Lies), compiled by Scarlett Curtis and published by Penguin Books.

It included a reference to the moment Knightley’s waters broke as she walked down Clerkenwell Road, leaving her favourite brogues ‘crusted and sticky’ with amniotic fluid.

The Bend It Like Beckham Star is normally fiercely private when it comes to her family life.

But in a rare interview on the Jonathan Ross Show in 2017, she couldn’t help gushing about her daughter.

She said: ‘She is talking a lot, she’s running, she’s literally repeating everything we say so we’re having to be really careful, and we are being really careful.’
